Hi everyone. My name is Phil and I bought a 2004 RX-8 about a month ago. I love it but I have some questions.
1) Can i buy a switchblade key for my car and get it programmed?
2) What type of oil do you guys use with ur RX-8
3) How often do you add oil to your car

1.) https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ht=switchblade
2.) People use 5w20 and 5w30 mostly, it seems. People will swear by the gods on each, so it's really up to you.
3.) It's good to check the oil every fill up or every other, depends on how spirited you drive the car, as the more you floor it, the more oil that gets deposited into the rotor housing. Just check, and when you're low, add up.

I used 5w-30 but it really desnt matter
usually once every few weeks. My fiance drives it and only works 2 miles away so its not beat on alot or driven very far.

1. yes
2. 5w20 but based on the findings in the "lets look at expo1's 100k motor" thread I think i'll probably switch to 5w30.
3. Used to check it every fill up but it goes down SLOW. Now I check every 3 fillups and just add more when it gets to the 3/4 mark on the dipstick.
:edit: Here's the post I was talking about https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...&postcount=190

I've never had that problem with my Mazda one. It lock's tight and the button requires a bit of pressure to release even after 3 years and countless people playing with it.

1. yes
2. 5w-30 Castrol
3. At least twice a month... I fill up once a week.
As per the owners manual: "Mazda recommends checking the oil level at every second fuel filling. The oil consumption of the engine depends on engine speed and engine load. Under extreme driving conditions, oil consumption can be higher."....
"Use SAE 5W-20 engine oil. Oil container labels provide important information. A chief contribution this type of oil makes to fuel economy is reducing the amount of fuel necessary to overcome engine friction. Only use oils “Certified For Gasoline Engines” by the American Petroleum Institute (API). An oil with this trademark symbol conforms to the current engine and emission system protection standards and fuel economy requirements of the International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC), comprised of U.S. and Japanese automobile manufacturers."

A Switchblade Key
So I just bought a switchblade key, if I want to get it programmed should i go to a dealership to get it cut too, or can i get it cut at Wal-mart. I don't want to mess up my car or the key, so the safest way would be the best for me. Thx

Walmart (locally) checks the key with a scanner, and if it has an immobilizer chip in it they refuse to cut it. Probably don't want to refund you for a $40 blank if they screw up.
Locksmiths can do it, then just follow the priogramming thread in the DIY section, save yourself $100 dealerbucks!

2. I used to use 5w30 Royal Purple Full Synthetic, but I just switched to 0w30 "true" Castrol Syntec Full Synthetic cuz it was on sale, as soon as my *supply* runs out, maybe till the year end , I will start using Redline 5w40.
3. Close to never, Cuz every oil change I top it off to the Max level, then I just drive 1500 miles - 2000 miles and I'll change it out and do the same thing
Do what Stealth suggested (locksmith)
