Questions on towing RX-8

I'll be moving to Colorado soon, maybe around early April. I'm looking around at trailer hitches, tow bars and of course, trailers. I know that the best way is to just load it on to an auto trailer. But I was wondering about tow bars or the dollys? Would they hurt my car in any way? Oh yeah, my friend and I are arguing about when dolly-ing the car when the car is off, the miles rack up. I said it's not true at all. True???

Flatbed.
That's the ONLY way I'd get my 8 transported.

I put mine on a flatbed, and pulled it from California to CT without any problems.

Flatbed the car. Not much more than putting it on a dolly, from most places.

Don't know about the odometer question. Probably not. Might have been an issue when the odo was mechanically related to the rotation of the axle, but probably not in this day and age of black-box electronics.

No miles will rack up while towing as long as the engine is shut off.

Flat towing is aggrevated on any car with power steering, when you turn the towed vehicle doesn't like to follow very well. Most of the time it's not a big problem but in an emergency manuver it could give you a very nasty surprise.

Flat bed. Flat-bed everything, dosen't matter on the car. It's way better. Even if I have to get towed because of a breakdown (never has happened on the 8) I always request a Flatbed. But I used to be a 4WD guy, so that might be my bias poking out.

You can rent a car trailer from U haul, that's how I took my FC from FL to Atlanta when I moved.

Our cars don't need them. Any conventional tow truck will do just fine as long as the car is dollied.

As for transporting the car by yourself, I'd get the auto trailer from uhaul where the car sits on top of the trailer itself. Some people like to tow rwd cars with just the rear tires up, which there is no harm in doing so, But since there's such low clearance on the front, it's not worth even trying if you're going a long distance. I've towed rx-8's with just the rear end up and the front wheels down before, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone without any experience.
