quick ? on CF hood.
i just bought my car last night. it came with a tsII cf hood already on it.
question is with fitment, it appears as though the hood isn't far enough forward. and by "apears as though" i mean it isn't far enough forward, there is a large gap in the front by the bumper and if it was just moved forward it would line up perfectly with the fenders and bumper as well.
can i just take the hood off, use a porting too to oblong out the factory hood mounting holes and adjust the hood ?
let me put it this way, i know thats what i can do, but has anyone else had this dilema and used the same solution or another problem solver i am not aware of?

i know it's light and not like it's a huge improvement but it's already on the car, i'll just oval out the holes and make it look right. it looks kinda silly as it is now. but with this, Pouring rain them sunshine then pouring rain then sunshine it's ridiculously muggy outside and i don't have a garage at this house so i'll just wait till tuesday when i have another day off.
I'll post pictures of what i mean and when it's done so you guys can tell exactly what i mean right now the camera is out getting fixed by nikkon.

i have a VIS OEM CF hood and there are fitment problems but, with all CF hoods there will always be fitment problems. i noticed that vis had a better fit than the sibon cf hood. the gap in the front is not that bad and i know exactly what your talking about. but like kun said it helps to bring in more air and does make a little bit of a difference. if i were you dont let it bug you the fitment will never be as good as the stock hood.

I really dont understand the point of a CF hood on an rx8 personally, whats the difference between the factory hood and a CF, a few lbs? Big waste of money that could have went to somthing better...like a trunk. I'm just talking out loud. lol

Yeah, well, if you want to bring in "more air" increase the flow through the radiator, don't rob from it. Make your hood seal better and the airflow will increase through the radiator and cool the engine appropriately. That's why they don't have hood scoops offered for our cars. Although vents allow for better air escape which also increases flow and if the radiator is the only way for it to come in the flow across the fins will increase. Just like increasing the number of openings behind the oil coolers increases cooling across them. So I would like my hood to line up correctly. And I will post pictures before and after.
Aside from needing to come forward a half an inch, the seibon hood lines up perfectly, not bashing on you but I would love to see how your VIS compares.

hkspoweredrx8 is correct, no real weight savings if any. The reason I installed the hood on my car is that I track my car and after runs the engine compartment gets heat soaked (unless I open the hood) and the vents help get the hot air out. It also helps reduce the under hood pressure when driving, lower pressure under the hood allows air to enter through the radiator more easily.

Exactly. And I didn't buy it, it came with the car when I bought the car 2 days ago. Not much weight savings over factory. I wouldn't get an oem replica CF. But the vented hood not only allows radiant heat to escape while not moving but allows for convectionary heat transfer a lot faster as the airflow through the radiator now has more escape routes and thus lower under hood air pressure .

P.S. Highway, your car looks sweet, can't wait to get the hood painted to match the car. My opinion it looks much better than CF. CF looks sweet on white and black but I prefer body color if it's not.

topgear8: j03 has xdeedubbx's old hood. There's plenty of pics of it around here.

Its funny because 90% of what I installed on the car was for track purposes only. Maybe the body kit helps, maybe it does'nt, no one says 100% for sure but I figure they cant hurt.
Anyways, ever sence I put the hood on I get 5 times as many thumbs up and people staring at it. My GF is always laughing when she sees people looking. At first she thought one of us was getting checked out but she learned quick that thr is hotter then both of us combined.
