A quick question

I don't know a lot about rotaries, but I have an RX-8 on order. Since most of the power comes in at about 5000+rpm, would it be ok to keep the engine at around that level during everyday driving? The salesman said its ok because it's a rotary, but not sure about that. It'd be nice to have that power on tap if you ever need it. Thanks!
