Quick question about my warranty...

Now since I have a 04 RX8 and its got 35,000 miles on it, no real problems but what im wondering is since mazda extended the warranty until 60,000 miles...Does the time frame matter now? Because I think when the original owner bought the car, it was almost 4 years ago which would void my warranty, I have only owned the car for 2 months and loving it! Please let me know, if im good or if i should start worrying lol

You should still have the additional year and or 10,000 miles for the powertrain. It would be a good idea to call your dealership to find out where you are at. I have a 2004 with 35k and my warranty ends in May.

I believe you can check this yourself by looking at the manufacture date sticker. Your warranty expires 4 years after the date on the sticker and not when the car was originally purchased. I believe it is on driver side door.

You car correct. I just confirmed with my dealership that it is from date of purchase. They used the term "put into service" which is the same as the original purchase date.

yup, 4 years from date of purchase OR 50,000 miles.
on top of that you'll have the 1 year / 10,000 mile powertrain they tacked on for the last recall.

Call the dealership to get an exact date. If you're still within warranty, I'd highly suggest a compression test.

How much for a compression test? My dealership quoted approx. $150. Is that a good price?

it's about $100 bucks or so from what I've read on here. $150 is a small price to pay for peace of mind though. (I just try and think of it that way since I"m quickly approaching the end of my warranty)

I agree. I am coming off full warranty in May 2008 and plan to get a compression test. My extended warranty drops in May 2009.

my extended warrenty ends Jan 09 and i am at 42K miles... should i get the compression test now, or wait a bit later to get it??? If i have a busted engine, i am assuming the powertrain will cover the replacement?

curious, so if your compression results are a bit below standard operating range is the dealer obligated to replace the engine?

i do agree however, a compression test for ~$130 bucks will give you that piece of mind leading out your warranty period.

its which ever comes first- so if you drive allot of miles every year you may use up the mileage side first. but if you dont you may end up running out of the time. im on the time side. my original 4 years ran out this past July 31st. my 1 year extended ends this year

I have about 1500 miles left on my 50K warranty, thinking about extending it. Do you think it's worth 3K for another 30K miles? Anyone have good/bad experience with extended warranties?

There are of course a lot of arguments for and against extended warranties. I decided to go for one because of the uniqueness of the rotary engine, which the typical local garage will probably not touch. Therefore, you may have to go to the dealer for any engine work, which would probably be a very expensive proposition. Below is the link to the thread I started when I was deciding to go with the extended warranty. YMMV

I paid an extra $500 for it being certified pre-owned which came with 1 yr extended warranty.

this is EXACTLY what i would like to know! I just had a power loss issue, and the marbles in the can problem. i'll hopefully take it in this weekend. but anyway, is there a point at which they HAVE to replace it (based on a low compression test) or is it just at their discretion??
