Quick racing question.....

So my cousin got a hot shot BMW M3 this morning (used haha), so he tells me let's go for a quick highway spin. We call a few friends one with a G35 and one with a BMW 330i.

So now we're cruising we agreed no one passes over 95 mph. So the M3 and the g35 go at it blah blah blah. So i'm side by side with the 330 in 3rd gear around 45mph and shift into 4th and around 5k rpm (the 330 never had a chance) the engine just clicked and slowed down to about 3k before it started moving again WTF??.

What the hell happened? I pulled off to the next exit, I let it idle shut it off for a little while and it seemed fine. Anyone have this problem before? (my first time actually pushing the rx8)

Thanks guys

your 8 sensed that you were on a public U.S highway about to kill some pedestrian crossing the road and decided to save *** alot of future grief and expense.

Nothing wrong I would say, 45 mph is 3000 RPM in 4th gear, and that is what you were describing.

Not the wisest title to a thread unless you are simply looking to get it closed. If you were doing 45 mph and shifted into 4th gear, than yes... your tach would have dropped to 3k rpm.

Here's a tip tho, read the forum rules before starting another "racing" thread.

You should have shifted from 3rd->2nd not 3rd->4th. Our engine doesnt have much power at 3000RPM.

Alright sorry I wasn't aware of it, but getting off the phone with the dealer he said it was traction control kicking in(morons). I know it wasn't but I'll leave it at that.

it sounds like the ecu pulled power from the engine because it detected a misfire or a knock.

what the hell??? Downshift to get to the powerband (5K-9K), not upshift!!!!
And for the other people who suggested any other solution, learn to read!

Funny thing is I know alot of people who think upshifting makes the car "go faster"...
