Exclamation radiator/ AC fan question

hey guys, i know there are tons of threads about ppl wondering why their radiator or AC fan goes on for a long *** time after they shut off their engine. Now,, my car did the same thing, and now even after a hard run at high RPMs and high speeds, the fan doesnt turn on / stay on after i shut off my car. is this ok? or is something wrong?

Where are you located? It's cooling off out there.

Upper 90's here, and after a 45 minute drive. I park it in the garage, walk out to the mailbox, and as I'm walking back into the garage it comes on every day. Routinely for the past four months.

What makes you think anything is wrong with it, the computer turns the fan on when it thinks it needs it, not when you think so. There are probably many factors that go into the fan coming on, temp just being one of them.

the main thing being if you turn the key back on and off the fan shuts off instantly. if the cpu wanted it on it's stay on. there's no point in running the radiatior fan after the gine is aff as the water is n longer circulating.. there's no benefit to cooling the coolant left in the radiatior.

i realize the coolant will circulate as the temp is lowered by the fans, this will create a CONVECTION current and also the air the fans move with help push the hot air out from the engine bay. The thing I dont get is that there is a thermostat, what temp does the thermostat start to open/close at, and what temp is fully open?

I never had the "running fan" on my car until summer came and I started using the A/C.

This happened to me tonight for the first time. Drove home from work, which is about 25 minutes of stop and go. Probably about 80 degrees out, A/C on all the way. Pulled into my driveway, turned the key off and got out. As I walked past the front of the car.....WTF? Thought I had experienced my first problem with myt car! I've had it for a couple of months now and absolutely love it.
Anyway.....Did a search and found this old thread. Quite relieved to know this apparently isn't a malfunction. I am curious though, why today for the first time. I've driven it longer and harder in on hotter days this last month and haven't experienced this.
So like I said....glad it ain't broke.....but how "normal" is this?

There is no problem.... I noticed that the fan turns on after engine off when the temperature reaches about mid 90s. Also if the AC was running, this will further improve the chances.

While the temperature was in the 80s, I never had the fan turn on after shut-off.

agreed, it took upper 90's for mine to kick in for the first time after shut-off.

I had just the opposite (and counter intuitive) recently. The fan surprised me by being on full tilt for quite some time after a non-a/c commute in 80's temps a few weeks ago. But earlier this week in the high 90's it did not come on/stay on after shut down. But then, I went in for a 3k mile oil change a week ago and perhaps they flashed my cpu.

It is also dependent on engine load......
I was having some fun in an empty parking lot the other day, and the temp was around 81 or so......and drizzeling......

After some engine load and reving on average around 7krpm, when I turn off the engine the fan turned on.....it wasn't really that hot outside, but the engine surely was.....

Not to worry really unless the temp gauge starts climbing past the middle point.....
The other day I drove it in 90s degree weather, and the fan didn't turn on after shut-off.....
