Last ticket I got I was driving home from a road trip in the middle of the night, there was an unmarked car I didn't realize was a cop following me a little too close. Since I didn't realize it was a cop so I sped up just a little to put some distance between us. Of course right then he turns on the lights and pulls me over. What a bullshit ticket, it is much safer for me to go a little faster on a completely deserted expressway than to have Officer Douchefuck trying to hump me from behind. Fortunately I fought it and got it reduced to a "no seatbelt" charge which was 1/3 of the price and no points on record.
Also, my favorite technique for passing a cop on the expressway: just go barely faster and inch past them, make sure it is less than 5mph over the limit. Eventually you will be able to put some big trucks in between yourself and the cop's line of sight, so at that point put the hammer down.

I've been pulled over ~25-30 (35?) times in the 12 years I have had my license, over half of them had a ticket issued to me, fine applied. Only once was for something other than speeding, a no-front-plate ticket with my 8, and that was the only ticket with my 8. And yes, I deserved every single one of them. Several of them I thought someone else around me would have deserved it more, but that doesn't put me in the right.
But that being said, I haven't run into a single ******* of a cop being on the wrong end of the stick. I have treated them respectfully each time, giving them the safety and comfort margin they look for. I have met the type of cop discussed here, though from the 'victim' perspective working LP.
I have met literally hundreds of cops in the past 8 years or so, interacting with most, and working closely with several dozen. That 90% / 10% thing does certainly apply. On the whole though, I applaud them all for their service. The bad apples happen, and they generally get weeded out internally before too long.
Keep your story straight and honest, with yourself as well as with them. Deal with the attitudes you run into calmly. Getting heated about it accomplishes nothing.
