Rattle coming from rear speaker shelf

Rattle coming from rear speaker shelf
I have the Bose system (I still think it should have come with at least an 8" sub even though it would kill more trunk space) and I get a rattle coming from the back speaker/amp area whenever I drive over less than ideal roads. It's taken me about three months to track it to that area as I was looking in the trunk today and tapped the shelf from inside the trunk. Sure enough, it made that little buzzing sound that some the times drives me crazy.
So, my question is, since this happens whether the stereo is on or off and there's a lot of crappy roads here in Dallas, does anyone have a good idea on a way to address this issue that doesn't invovle too much ripping apart of the car.

I've got the same rattle and it's getting really annoying. Mine rattles now over all roads, even smooth ones. I've made sure the pass through is tight, I've put cushioning on all the cabling in the trunk that was even remotely loose and could have knocked against something else and most recently I added cushioning between the plastic cover behind the bask seats and the seat assembly. All to no avail.
I'm taking the car to the dealer this week to let them figure it out. I've only had the car for 3 months and don't think I should have this kind of rattle already.

I had the same rattle. Took it to Town North Mazda when I did an MSP, they "insulated the speaker deck" (according to the service record), and that fixed it perfectly. No charge, because I was still in the 12 month "minor adjustment" warranty.

Mine developed some rattling after I installed the basslink sub (the additional booming in the trunk caused things to rattle). I found out it was one of the rear speakers rattling in its mounting hole, so I unscrewed it and placed silicone sealant around the lip of the mount and the speaker to fix the noise. The other one I found was the plastic covering of the rear back seat rattling against the metal crossmember that it rests against. I cut some foam insulation and inserted it in between. There is a thread here on DIY removal of the rear deck.

Thank you for the suggestions, once I get back home and get some time, I'm going to take a look at the area back there and see what I can do. I may have to take it into the dealer one day next week, even though I hate being without my car for any amount of time.
