Rattle when Iddle
After a long trip to London, noticed that when on iddle I could hear a kind of rattle, more noticeable if standing by the car on its right side that with the bonnet open and the head right in there.
Another fact is that if I was to increase the revs just sightly the rattle noise would accelerate, but a higher increment on the revs and the noise would stop.
Now I have got back from London and the noise isn't there anymore, but was present when I stopped at the petrol station few hours back.
Performance is the same, and there is no lights on the dash.
Any ideas what the rattle might be?
Cheers everyone!!!!

at idle it is likely your SSV sticking or worn. do a search for SSV and rattle noise.
there is other possibilities like worn motor mounts causing things to vibrate on the engine, exhaust hangars loose, worn transmission gears, other intake switching valves sticking, etc.
under a load there is other possibilities but at idle the list narrows.

thanks,
The noise isn't there anymore, so I will wait for it to come back on again,
Recently I have used a can of BG44, so hopefully won't have any sticking valves.
Many thanks

At about 60k miles I got a rattle at idle like that.
I told the dealer I thought something was wrong with my clutch.
They dropped the Cat and found it had melted leaving ***** of molten material rolling around.
Mine was replaced free under warrantee 1100USD.
If your cat plugs it can reek havok due to backpressue with your intake and get very expensive.
Have your Cat inspected quickly. Only takes a few minutes at the dealer.
