I've made many a diesel/V8 fan a believer in imports with this car, and it's amazing to have a group of guys walk over to you when you pull in, after being gathered around a bunch of Mustangs.
--Not to bash it, either! Wow!
With my FC, they pretty much just ignored it, or said it was a piece, lol. The RX8 is totally different.

well it sounds very rare, I see them all the time, maybe 2 a day. Not more than Honda Accords, Toyota Camrys, etc. or anyhting but I see them often. I do think it is a dead sexy car, I just wish they made a 2 seating turbo version. even if it was a small 5 or 6 psi turbo. Not like I could afford a base anyway. They're nice, I'm not trying to bash the Rx-8 as I LOVE them but I'm just saying I've never thought of one as the kind of car people would stop you to ask about.

The Rx8 get attention from everyone..in every car.
People in Lux cars look at it and think its a car more expensive than theirs.
People in 350z's, EVO's, S2000's know it isn't the fastest of the Japanese sport cars..but they respect it for the rarity and the fact that it IS a japanese sports car.
People in riced out cars respect it because it was in the fast and the furious.
People in bikes respect it because its rev's almost as high as their own machines.

When I first brought the car to work a few of us were going out to lunch, the CFO sees my car and says "Oh, my god!" laughing with wide eyes "What the the hell is this......" I'll never forget his face.
I'm driving down the road the other day and hear out my passenger side window "Whooooooa, Whoooooa!!!!" I look over and this guy and a girl in a convertible are ogling the car and he goes on "Nice ride, how about we trade, you take my wife and I get the car." I politely thanked him for the the offer but had to turn it down, I pointed out I already had one at home and that one was a handful on her own. We both drove off laughing.
My son's friends (9 to 10 years old) voted it coolest car in the neighborhood.

As a car guy I sure wouldn't turn down a 3rd gen. RX-7 Turbo but once FI is worked out on the RX-8 the ricer's respect will come and those who truly know cars already respect it.

note: the Rx-8 is still faster than my Rx-7, so I'm not dissing it, I think I was just dissapointed ot be seeing a 4 seating N/A car wearing the Rx badge. I've come to like it, I just hated the 2 first years of people going "The Rx-8 is better(faster) than the Rx-7, because it's newer." which is what people assumed. I feel that the biggest difference in sales is in price and practicality.

You also have to realise that in many ways the RX-8 is the best RX ever made. It is the most reliable, most fuel efficient, best riding, easiest to drive hard, most practical and most advanced. Acturally the only RX to have anything over the 8 is the 7 3rd gen in terms of raw performance but that came at the prices of reliability, twitchier at the limit handling and comfort. The older RX's were great cars at the time but just can't compete with the newer technology in the 8 with the exceptions that have already been mentioned. IMHO.

Everyone where I work knows I'm a car guy. Heck, my avitar was my daily driver for about 4 years. But, when I traded my 91 Explorer in on my RX8, more than one of my coworkers asked if I was having a mid-life crisis! I was 35 at the time. Two and a half years later people still keep telling me how much they love my car. There are not many RX8s here in middle Tennessee, so I get a lot of rubber neckers.

I have had mine for about a month now. The night I brought it home the two 17 year old kids next door totally freaked out. They said it was much cooler than my old car (Audi TT Quattro Roadster). That caught me off-guard a bit but it was an interesting perspective from a different generation. My guess is that they have a much better idea of what is cool these days than a 36 year old

I tex and go ont this site a lot well at work. So all my co-workers know what kind of car I drive. When I show them a pic they all say:"WOw! thats your car?"
lol then: "You must love your car?" and I say hell yeah!

That CYM FD gives me an e-gasm. That's my dream car color and all.
oh and I have ridden in an Rx-8 beofre, it's much torquier and is a blast but I still don't get the "Wow" factor my 7 gives me. Then again riding and driving are 2 different things.

That yellow 7 looks great. Reason why the 8 gets more compliments is because the 7 looks like a dated 90s car by now. But I'm sure that people who actually know a thing or two about cars pay their respects to you from time to time when you're in the FD.

I love the fact that no one around my area has one. I have yet to see the exact same one or an RX-8 for that matter. I've gotten the whole typical nice car compliment. I think kids are the best, they will tell you straight up if a car is cool or not. Going to work one day, i had to stop at a school bus stop, the kids were like COOL, AN RX-8. so that says a lot considering they never say my other cars were cool. Also, my family hasn't heard of the RX-8. not advertised and my neighbors never knew about it. so when they first saw it, i think it left them pretty speechless and smiling. When i opened up the suicide doors. it was like their face went from its a nice car to WOW. it has extra doors?!....so i think the RX-8 is a bit exotic...to those who don't know much about cars. i get mostly hard stares than actual verbal compliments. It's those hard stares that people stop in their track and just look in awe and amazement haha. I think thats the ultimate compliment. Esp when they dont have a clue what car it is until they read the trunk
