really ticked off
so i just got my 3000 mi. oil change from the dealer where i bough my cart just a few months prior. 2 days later i washe it and when popped the hood to wipe down the engine, i notice my dipstick laying on top of my engine. they never put it back, just left it laying on top. i'm going to have them re look at it, is there any real damage that could have happened and what would you do?

Just take it up the butt. Not much that's gonna happen from you missing your dipstick. We've all had those not-so-thorough customer service experiences...and all you can do is pick your battles. You don't want to come off as whiny-bitch or draw any negative attention to yourself that could hurt you some time later.

Is there oil all over under the hood?
Have you splashed through giant puddles?
Then all I would suggest is that you have them change the oil for free.
As soon as you bring it in to show them what they did.
But make sure you get an invoice stating what happened and why your oil is being changed again so soon.
For your protection in the future.

theres no oil splattered, it cap was tight, just the dipstick out and on top of the engine. when i saw it, i was most worried that it could have fallen into the engine and burnt something up (you can tell how mechanical i am). thanks for the input guys.

Saturday I got my 6,000 mile oil change at a dealership. I have a general distrust of dealerships and of this one in particular. So, when they brought my car out and told me the work was done, I told them I would like to check the oil myself before driving off. The service manager was obviously very insulted by this, but it's something I have often done in the past. In fact as a kid when I worked at a gas station and did oil changes, it was required to show our customers the dipstick with the fresh oil at the "F" mark upon returning their cars.
