Rear axel grinding?
I did a search but didnt come up with anything? Sometimes, when I am making a left turn, there is a grinding noise coming from my rear axel (sounds like rear left)... i am going to ask the dealer, but wanted to see if anyone had the same issue

I've got a noise similar to that. More of a whirling mechanical noise that a grind. Only seems to happen on sharp left turns.
I thought it was something do to with the differential and tires. I've put 30k miles on it and nothing has broken yet...

I have a similar issue. It happens when I slowly turn my car right, this is like when turning into a parking spot, garage etc.
I did take it in to get it checked and the service manager said that it was the bolts on the subframe that weren't torqued right. So they did what they had to do. But I can hear the noise again, so I am gonna take it in again and see what gives.

I just posted in the tech garage that the limited slip clutch plates in my diff just failed. Mazda is going to replace the whole thing. I'm still waiting for the part after 11 days.
This could be your problem, especially if it gets worse over time and occurs under additional conditions. I'd get it checked but be skeptical of the dealer response.

I hear the exact same thing. Almost like the sounds of wheel bearings going bad. I thought it was the brakes but Smithtown Mazda changed the pads and rotors and the noise still continues.
I'm going to take it back in for them to look at since the car only has 11K miles and is an 05. Hopefully they can figure it out.
It sounds like a grinding and is noiser when coming to a stop.

Bad wheel bearing - replaced under warranty.

I had my diff replaced because of this. Happened only after long drives(hard to duplicate for the dealer). Turnning off the Traction control or Dis did'nt make any dfferences. I had it posted in issues and problems "Rear end Shudders"
Goood Luck!

I bought mine new as well (currently 13k miles, never towed, no mods, etc.) and I think I may possibly have heard a noise similar to what ur refering to. I've heard it from the time I got the car, and it happens whenever I'm making a turn in any direction sufficiently hard enough to swing the rear end, but I've always attributed it to the traction control engaging to brake the outside rear wheel. Maybe that wasn't an accurate assessment on my part, but that was my initial diagnosis.
Having read this thread, however, I may need to have my 8 looked at... First, I'll probably experiment with and without the traction control on to see if that's actually the issue. Hopefully, it's nothin major

sounds like a problem i had many months ago. a grinding sound from the rear in low gears, especially when turning. it got increasingly worse very quickly until the entire car started shuddering fairly violently. turns out i had the wrong viscosity differential fluid (pep boys, etc...wasnt during my ownership). after that was drained and properly cleaned out, replaced with the right fluid, the grinding is totally gone. get it checked out.

I've got the same issue. Mine happens more after long drives and only on hot days. I took it to dealer a few months ago but it wouldn't do it for them (wasn't hot enough). Never happens when it's cool outside or the car is cool. I bought it new and it's been doing it since the first summer I had it. Have not noticed it getting any worse.

are you sure? I heard it too, mine doesn't come with DSC or TSC for that matter, anyhow it only happens when I drift or mad left turn burnout, my friend's car has it too but he said that was from his LSD, from what I've heard the rx8 already comes with a 1.5way LSD? maybe you're hearing that

Change the rear differential fluid. When you see the sewage that comes out of the drain hole, you'll understand why your rear-end is groaning in the corner. There are millions of threads on this issue in the tech forum.
