"rear fog light" for under $10
After seeing this DIY thread about the rear fog light I decided to install my own rear fog light. I could have spent $200 but I did not want to do it. I might sound stingy but I felt that it was not worth it. Besides the OEM rear fog light requires to trim a good chunk of the lower bumper. Also, you can’t install it if you have the rear rotary accent. So, I went to a heavy duty truck part store and I got this LED red marker. I could have got a LED from autoilumination.com but I felt that was too bright. Since the LED light was made for truck applications, it has DOT approval so chances that I will get stop by a cop is minimal. Here is a picture of the LED (yellow..I forgot to take the red one that I have) and the manufacturer’s website.

To wire the LED I followed the DIY thread
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=13408
The only difference is that I taped into the license plate wire harness. The positive wire in the harness is back with a red stripe which is the one farthest to the passenger side. I installed the LED light by drilling three holes. One 1” middle hole for the connector and two small one so that I can secure it with screws. Double side tape does not work because of the raised diamond patterns in which limits your surface contact. Don’t use too long screws. If you go too far in, you will damage the circuit board.
Here is a picture of the installed LED.

here is a full rear view. I really like the light since it makes the polished accent glow red. Sorry I couln't take the picture in totaly dark to make the comparison. But you will get the idea how intense the LED light in relation with the driving lights.

Thanks for the complement. As far as the third break light on the trunk, I haven’t modified it. I thought as well as making the LED light to work with the break lights but I couldn’t find an LED light fixture small enough that has two separate circuits; it is normally 4 to 6 inches in diameter, way too big to fit in. So, I just settle down with the light on along with the driving lights.

I know this thread is going on 2 years old but where are the pics? If the pics were still here this DIY would still hold some value.
Hopefully some of the people who worked on this thread still have pics they can repost.
Thanks.

I agree NoTears, I just couldn't tell until they reposted the pictures. Too bad, I was hoping for something closer to the Euro fog light.
