A spoiler on the 8 is like a fanny pack on a supermodel.

Totally unecessary, and most likely it will detract from the overall beauty.

But I'd still dive in and - well, you can guess where this is going.

HAHAHA! I couldn't agree more. nice and clean....no spoiler, no appearance package. The engineers designed the car without all that stuff...that is way it was meant to be.

Except the engineers designed a spoiler for this car...

the 'optional' spoiler. Might not have been designed by the original team...accessories are probably designed by an accessories team.

That and all the original press photos showed the car without it.

IMHO, it just clutters up the design.

I have the stock spoiler on mine. I like the look, but the people who dont know about the secret handle use it to close and open the trunk.

PS:
Engineers and the design team could have designed it with a spoiler and appearance kit, and then the accountants said "we could save $4000 by taking all these fiddly bits off"

^^Why are you letting anyone else open and close your trunk? I mean, other than your wife if she is reaching for the spare tire while you supervise...

MS front, sides, rear, but stock spoiler on my Copper Red (all painted CR, even the lower areas that are usually gray). I think this makes a nice combo.

Secret handle? I just pop the trunk and put my fingers under the edge by the latch and lift

I love the stock spoiler, it just looks to bland without one.

When I see a stock bodied rx8 without the appearance package, it makes me sad lol. There are certain body kits that make the car look better without the spoiler, but for the most part, I think the spoiler is needed.

I think the appearance package helps make the car look lower to the ground.

I saw Jedi's Mazdaspeed wing while at Sevenstock and it looks cool as hell. Definitely go for it.

If you like to be boring and simple then go with boring and simple. (The 8 by the way looks good both ways...just better with the MS kit.)

If you like to be wild and sexy then go with the MS kit!!

i personally did not like the original Spoiler so got mine with the appearance kit without it and chanced up the body a bit... I am now thinking of getting a spoiler, but more in line with the evo R one or the Ings spoiler... i like the look of those on the 8...

I like the stock spoiler but wasn't going to give the dealer $400+ paint for it.

JT, bet you caught some s**t for that one! - Unless you aren't married and just came up with that observation (but then, it takes a married man to really appreciate it)

I'm in the stock spoiler camp. I haven't seen an aftermarket spoiler that looks good to me. Most look like a tinker-toy add-on. On the other hand, I think most 8s look naked without the factory spoiler. They may appear "clean" in the short term, but the spoiler really adds to the overall look. I think it is subdued, clean, and just flows with the 8s lines. Obviously all of this is totally subjective, but that's my 2 cents.

Zoom, Zoom!

Put me in the pro-spoiler camp.

Mostly because it's what I have though.

If my 8 was red, red would be the best color. Right now, titanium is the best color.

Uhhh yeah I do. When I bought mine, I looked for a 8 with the appearence package minus the rear spoiler. However this is a completely personal choice. The following is not my car but looks identical.

OOOOooooooo. Are their pics anywhere? I wanna see!

Mine came with one. It was however a deciding factor between she and a Pearl White Shinka on the lot.

The rear spoiler kind of helps finish out the flow of the car, I think. Without it, the back just kind of... squares off, and looks awkward. Looking at the car from the side, it just doesn't look right. From directly behind the car, the difference in looks doesn't really bug me, however... but then, I've never cared for what any car looks like from directly behind.

Yes. I'm not saying you'd like it, but I like it.

I'm just not a fan of wings as style details. Paricularly if they distract from more sophsiticated details.

The 8 comes with some nice stylng in the back. The trunk lid has a lip that complements the top of the rear bumper. Ever notice how the back of the lid, bracketed by the lip, the bumper and the taillights, has a nozzle-like appearance. Reminiscent of the aerospike exhaust on the ill-fated X-33.

I'd just hate to distract from that feature.

But that's me. YMMV.

Ken
