Recall labels?

For you guys and gals who had the airbag recall done...

Did you get the recall labels stuck under your hood? Or the yellow circle sticker on the bracket in your glove compartment?

My car was delivered without the airbag recall being done. The dealer did it for me this morning, but there's no external evidence or claim that it was done... no labels, no paperwork, no receipt, nothing. I assumed the label would be under the hood.

It's not so much that I don't believe they did it, but rather I wonder if I'm in some odd legal limbo now, since they haven't "claimed" it was done via labels on the car, or a receipt, or SOMEthing.

Do you guys have the labels?

Will the label prove they did it?

Not exactly, but I believe the label indicates who did the work, so it'd be an incredible legal risk to claim it was done (via a label) when it wasn't.

They've been very responsive to my concerns, and I know they did the M flash during the same session, so I have no reason to doubt they also did the airbag.

I'm mostly just curious if I'm the only one without the labels (waaaah!).

As soon as the dealer does any kind of work, they update the cars history in the Mazda database. No matter where you go, if a dealer types in your VIN, they can see everything that has been done to that specific vehicle. Who cares about a sticker, unless the Recall specifically requires one under the hood?

Well, I care.

I'm surprised that my question seems to actually be annoying people. I'm a very careful, detailed person - especially when a passenger can, you know, die.

The recall notice specifically states that a sticker ("Authorized Modification Label RECALL 1604B") be placed under the hood. This would tell me that Mazda has taken legal responsibility for the repair. Otherwise, if I get into an accident, and my passenger is injured or killed because the airbag didn't deploy, Mazda could simply say I never had the recall done even though I was notified - it'd be my fault.

Anyways, my intention wasn't to convince anyone they needed recall stickers.

My question is if you've had the recall performed, did Mazda place the required sticker ("Authorized Modification Label RECALL 1604B") under your hood?

I'm not annoyed

The stickers have been discontinued since 1997..

Some are starting to be sent out to dealers as we speak..

I just wanted to make the point that the sticker does not the recall prove..

Sorry if you thought I was annoyed

Hmmm, are we talking about the same thing?

Because I have the Mazda recall (internal notice to dealers) in front of me, dated February 2004, which lists as part of the recall procedure adding a label to the hood.

In fact, it even says if the recall HAS been done (customer brings car in for verification perhaps), but no label exists, one should be signed and put there.

We are talking about the same thing and believe me they are hard to find!.

The instruction for installing the label has been a default message in TSB's and Recalls for a LONG time.

My dealer ordered 100 sheets of the labels 2 months ago and they have only recieved 2 sheets as yet.

Even the "port" must have trouble getting them as they tell the dealers to check the "mode 9 " info prior to reflashing the car.

No - zero labels. I've had recalls and the flash update done to mine, but they did not put any labels on. As a matter of fact, no labels were put on at the port either. If Mazda discontinued the labels, they should remove that step off their bulletins.

Do you have the port campaign label(s)?

I had the airbag and damper recalls done last visit to the dealer, my stickers are next to the windshield washer fluid tank. Two recalls, two stickers. There's no more room for any more there... wondering where future stickers will be placed. I don't see any for the reflash... maybe the hosers didn't bother with the new flash since I havn't griped about any other issues. I'll be in within a few days for the 15k service, I'll bring the 'M' flash bulletin and see if they slap a label on for the reflash.

I have no external indication that the airbag recall was done. In fact, I found the recall service kit in the glove box, unopened. I was told by the sales guy that all recalls had been complied with prior to taking delivery of the car. When I found the recall kit in the glove box, I called the dealer's service dept and had them run the VIN. Records indicate that the recall service had been performed. I then called another dealer and had him run the VIN as well, with the same result. I will assume the recall has been complied with (and trust the estate lawyers to sue Mazda out of existence if they failed...)

If you want to see if it was done (or claimed to be done) call Mazda and give them your VIN and ask them if it was done. If they say yes then you can sleep soundly at night knowing that it's registered that you took the car in to get the recall done and that it was noted by the dealer that it was performed.

If they say it wasn't done, then take it back to the dealer, give 'em curry and have them do it again. If they say they already did it, have them call Mazda and ask.

The stickers could be installed without the work actually being done! They are no proof. If an accident was too occur and the air bag didn't go off then someone (insurance company, police, your legal guy's investigator) will inspect the car to see why it did not work. If the recall was not done and a dealer had entered the VIN as completed that dealer would be liable and cost him $$$$$$$.

The primary purpose of the sticker is to make it easier for the dealer to identify that the work was done and not have to check the VIN record. If you have a RO showing it was done that should be enough for you. My 8's recalls were done, but no stickers and I am not worried.

Ahem. Uh. OK. All together now... "HeelnToe is a MORON!"

Either Snap-on snuck into my parking lot and stuck labels on my car to make a fool outa me (I wouldn't put it past him, lol), or...

They were there all along. Airbag recall label, and M flash label.

OK look, stop rolling your eyes, both labels are stuck on the backside of that lip under the hood. At 6'2", I just don't SEE there. And one of the labels is transparent... with black ink. My car is black, lol.

Anyways, dealer = good, HeelNToe = embarassed

LOL! :D Glad you found them and are happy.

I'm not sure what part of the hood you're describing? Toward the front or rear of the car, driver's side or passenger's side?

Front. I was just careless. I even had my wife look, just to be sure I wasn't missing it, and we BOTH missed 'em somehow.

This was my initial view... look ma, no labels!

(they're behind that lip at the hood front end)

And here's the transparent one, lol...

The flash made it more obvious than it is...

I know, I know, who cares? But I'm bored, lol, and wanted an excuse to go outside and take pics of the car
