If the car is warm, you don't have to rev it before you turn it off. If it's cold, then I believe the procedure is to rev to 3K for 10 seconds. But best not to turn it off cold. Since the 8 warms so quickly, that's really just an issue for things like moving the car around in your driveway.

Rotaries don't break down all the time. They're actually pretty rugged - three moving parts instead of scores, "hummmm" instead of "boing," etc.

If yours turns over three times before starting, you may have the latest flash. Mine started instantly before the recall, and turns a couple of times before starting after. That's part of the new flash: let it turn a little before injecting fuel.

Sounds like you've been hearing stuff from the wrong people. Before that spoils your enjoyment of the car, try reading some of the sticky threads here about its features/characteristics.

Other than the potential for flooding and the low gas mileage, routine day-to-day driving of the 8 isn't different than any other car. Blasting into a corner at insane speed, listening to the engine rev, enjoying the smoothness, etc., are very different. But that's what we buy them for.

have you had it flood yet? and i do mean this... i somehow have not had it happen to me. in 61k miles. and this is my first rotory also...

if you take the time to read the owners manual and all the little stuff in the packet that came with your car..

but really all you ?s have been answered in your own thread... they have. if you dont take the time to read them maybe you will stop asking the same ?s...

and why do you buy a new car and start a thread about rx8 vs s2000 vs wrx..

and the ms6 a recall queen.. dont think so.. the rx8 is good at something...

No. REv the car only if it's cold and was running less than about 6 minutes. You don't need to rev when it's warm.

That is normal. Turning over 3 times is no problem.

They're full of it. You have a naturally aspirated rotary. Keep up your maintenance and it'll last a long time. The bad perception is from the overheating turbo 3rd gen RX-7s.

a recall is a recall. just get it done when you can but don't wait a year to do it. it takes less than a day... unless the dealer is lazy.

Ok I got the recall done. When I got my car it came with an extra set of brand new spark plugs and I was always wondring what they were for. I showed them to the service manager and he said they were the ones required for the recall so they used them. I never got a chance to start the car becaues they brought it to me and i drove it home and turned it off, hopefully i wont have starting issues? The way I see it though is I never got the free tank of gas and i gave them spark plugs to use which i could have kept for later on. Car seems to drive the same but who knows until i get on it tomorrow.

They were supposed to get you a free tank of gas. They weren't supposed to replace spark plugs, if the car had spark plugs replaced less than 12 months ago or had the final quality inspection (i.e. a new car). I guess it doesn't hurt that they replaced them.

So do you feel that its fine? They did that 4209 emmissions recall where they put in new plugs and they reprogram the PCM thing. I just hope they didnt mess anyhting up as I have no idea about Rotoray engines other then what you guys tell me.

I'm sure you'll be fine. It's just a spark plug change and PCM reprogramming.

Actually, I just started the car to go to best buy and I am so fed up with this whole thing that I punched it to redline a few times.

1. I cant believe it is so slow..seriously wtf it does not move...my old rsx s would eat this car on the road no doubt and that makes me angry.

2. Somthing is fucked up after this PCM reprogram because the car smells like gas/oil and NO POWER between 3k-4k in the RPM range. Also I have started it 2 times now since this PCM/spark plug crap and it has to turn over 3 to 4 times before it starts. BEFORE the "recall" It would start right away. Why the hell does it start like that now?????

3. I redlined it 2 times and between 8-9k there is a HUGE/LOUD rattle sound comming from the engine. Is this normal, because i never redlined the car before.

4. I can hear the engine KNOCKING/pinging when the car is at idle. It never did this before either. ????

I am so upset that the car doesnt start like it did before the recall. It has to turn over like 3-4 times before it starts. I dont undertand how that can be. Also this whole loss of power between 3-4k ...i even wathed the miles per hour and the car is just slow. It was never like that before this godforsaken recall. How can i even prove this to them now???

Hang onto your mood, and go back to the dealer and tell them what's wrong.

There are posts here by others who had 4206f go bad. Mine went just fine, so I didn't keep track of them, but if you search you should find them. Knowledge is power.

This is me under a new name at work because i forgot my PW and GMAIL is blocked here.

Anyhow, I took the car in this morning, said it drives like **** ( in the exact words). They brought the mechanic out that worked on the car and we went for a test drive. The car started like crap right infront of him and after the test drive he told me he will put the stock plugs back in. After he put them in, the car started normal and now drives fine. So pretty much what happend was I gave them a perfect car, them put in plugs that came with it when i bought it in a seperate box and did that computer reprogram. After they put in my stock plugs which i guess he had laying around from the day before and now the car runs like it did when I bought it. I am still worried because i dont know if the plugs I got in now( the ones that came with the car) are the recall ones. Also I dont nkow what this PCM thing did to my car. My guess is that somthing will go wrong sooner or later with this engine.

Also is it possible to replace spark plugs in a matter of 10 minutes? I honestly think that he may have forgot to put a plug wire back on and thats why i was getting bad starts and powerloss thru the whole rpm range.

What are your thoughts guys?

Ten minutes is more than enough time to change plugs and examine them.

Sounds like it was a bad plug. If he missed putting a plug wire on, he'd have spotted that immediately, and not changed plugs again.

PCM flash will not hurt your car. It does good things to protect your engine against a couple of fringe possibilities. On an '06 it also corrects a data-reporting fault on temperature.

Plugs were not an actual recall item, just a potential victim of the things the recall fixed. As long as your old ones were clean they're fine.

Now go out and find a nice twisty road!
