recall RX-8

I heard about the recall for the RX-8 recently. I called the local dealer and scheduled an appointment to get checked out. I have a 2004 model and my VIN fell in the range for the recall (I never received a notice from Mazda). The dealer had my car for 2 days and called me to say they are replacing my engine. The said it will take a few days. Anyone else had an engine replaced? How long did it take?

Give it a week. They should have put you into a CX-7 by now...

Were you having any problems? Ping, Loss of Power, Hard starting, anything you noticed or told the dealer about?? Is it A/T or M/T....how many miles....what type of oil did you use reg or Synthetic or what ever dealer put in. Reg or prem gas....what type of driver are you ...avg...agressive...very agressive ...did you rev it up much to the red line? You will be without it for a week or two. Go to the search at top of page and do "Recall" and read for as much time as you have available.

Had mine done with a brand new engine and it took 9 days because they also found that the cat convertor needed to be replaced also. Good luck, I was driving a mazda6.

I had my engine replaced at 36,000 miles (no problems) under a special swap deal for Mazda's engineering research. This was planned ahead of time and everybody was ready to go on it. Took one day.

Here is some good reading about the recall. It's about 126 pages long so pace yourself.

I went in for the recall and all they did was change the 2 leading spark plugs which does not make sense to me when the car has 4 plugs. Shouldn't they change all 4? Sorry, I not a rotary or engine expert, just throwing out some conversation material.
