Recent new Owners - what's your VIN & Mfr Date?
If anyone's taken delivery in the last few weeks, would you mind posting your vehicle's date of manufacture and possibly the VIN? I want to make sure my new vehicle order is just that, and not something recycled. I'm in the wait phase for a VIN# to be assigned and you can probably sense the obsessive/compulsive behavior setting in On the other hand, I'm just curious too.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I should have been more clear. Just the last 5 digits would be fine, like the other posts comparing VIN to gas mileage. I see some vehicles sitting in inventory in the 09500 range and guessing that a brand-new VIN would be in the 25000-30000 range. Trying to get a feel for it.
Thanks!

Be careful posting
Maybe post a range of numbers! Not trying to hurt this thread, but privacy is big thing.... you wouldn't post you name, SS# and birthdate here, would ya?
If we had an anonymous registry, that would be sweet... maybe update with problems.
I know there's board hacks for vbulletin out there!

I understand the concern, but had already seen any number of posts with vin sequence numbers.
Moderator - ok to kill this thread. I can rephrase the question without risking anyones identity but will do so in a new thread.

VIN# ....127XX with a build date of August 2003. Car was purchased 30 Oct 2003.
On my last tank of gas I got 16.505 mpg (12.303 gallons in 203 miles.
On this tank though I have gone 99 miles at just over a quarter of a tank although this was mostly interstate so I think that the gas milage is improving with every tank.

Thanks for the replies. It's been about a week and a half since the order was put in. I guess I'm getting a VIN number for Christmas . And maybe a Zymöl kit :D My Miata is saying "yeah right. you waxed me once in the last 6 months -- with Turtle Wax!"
Could have had a Titanium right off the lot... but Nooooooo! :D

can you give me ONE example what kind of personal information you can gather from my VIN? _PERSONAL_, I mean, not car related information?
Here is a decoder:
http://www.analogx.com/contents/vinview.htm
Or this one:
http://www.kountrykrafter.com/vin_decoder.htm
Example:
my RX8's VIN is JM1FE173940109161
They report:
VIN: JM1FE173940109161
Year/Make/Model: 2004 MAZDA RX8
Body Style: Coupe 4 door
Engine Type: 1.3L L2 PFI
Manufactured In: JAPAN
Site #1 also finds that it is built in "assembly plant 0".
So, what is the personal information exactly? Ok, I know, you can search the DMV with that, title information maybe. I think that is public record. CarFax seems to do that.
I still fail to see how that's *a lot of personal* information though. Or did I overlook something?
You get more *personal* information on me if you search Google for my handle.
I don't mean to attack you, but some people seem paranoid. On the other hand, I'm very willing to get educated.
Do you think someone could now call car insurances and try to get quotes on me and thus hurt my credit score or something? (In some states, car insurances will pull your credit score, yes, without having to tell you! California is not one of these states)
As I said, tell me what the dangers are..
