Redlining and Rotors problem

So, I just got my 8 and I had a few questions:

When we refer to "redlining", does that mean flooring it, or just gradually gasing up to the redline? As far as the saying "One redline a day, keeps the carbon away", does it matter which gear you redline to clear out the carbon in order to prevent flooding?

Also, I have an issue when braking relatively hard from speeds over 50. The back of the car would shake somewhat significantly when this happens. I asked my friend about it and he said it is most likely the rotors not being smooth and even. Any insights?

you could have them checked but you are probably feeling the ABS. Have you had a car equipped with ABS previously?

"Redlining" is simply allowing the engine to reach rpm's at which the "redline" is designated regardless of gear or the rate at which you get there. As far as driving the RX-8, just be sure to hit (or even almost hit) redline every once-in-while at wide open throttle once the engine is fully warmed up. I probably do it at least once a drive as I don't need much convincing to do this.

I try to do it once every time I drive...but since it's so freaking cold, it takes longer to get my engine fully warmed up, so by the time it IS warmed up, I have no place to floor it, as if I floor it in first gear, I'm already 5 over the speed limit... bah!

No, there is no load on the engine. The big point of the 'redline a day' is doing it while in gear. It forces open every inch of the intake and helps to blow off that carbon...

Welcome to the club.
Use 2nd gear as it peaks at 68 mph. Then you won't get a ticket.

Redlining keeps the engine healthy but it must be done under a load (in gear) and is better to do WOT, than partial throttle.

The vibration could easily be abs does it have any noises along with it. Could be warped rotors but I would highly doubt it. Especially ion the rear brakes.

Sorry, but what do you mean by WOT and partial throttle?

As far as the shaking goes, it's pretty significant and noticable, but is this normal if it is the ABS? As far as noises, there isn't any screeching or anything like that. It just shakes from side to side.

Hey guys,

When redlining, is it bad to go so high that you hear the beep? Is that bad for the engine? Also, when do you guys add more engine oil, when the dipstick is @ low? or what?

Thanks for the help!

no, rotaries love to rev, the reason for the 9.3k limiter, is cause at that high of revs, the engine loses its effiency, therefore losing power.

you dont litterally have to redline once a day, but its good for the engine, atleast 7.5ks a day, that opens all the exhaust ports so there is no carbon buildup

take the RPM's up in the higher range above 6500 to open the last valve and injectors up.....the beep is just there to tell u that ur getting close to rpm's becasue this car rev's so easily you can lose track of where u are...

as for oil i fill up when i'm about halfway between full and low that is about a qt...unless going to the track or a long drive i make sure it's at full before i go

Always add oil before you get to 'low' try to keep it as close to 'full' as possible, mine generally rests at about 3/4 to full. Still not sure on the brake issue, you make need to take it somewhere, kinda difficult to get an idea of what's wrong w/o seeing/hearing.
