Well I'm still new, just over a thousand miles on my 07 rx8 but it seems, based on the link, they may have made some nice engine changes as well as changes for the automatic (and manual models as well).

 

I don't get the bold part. I understand the revised gearing contributing to better acceleration but would new water and oil pumps make that much of a difference? And was the body structure actually redesigned?

Seems like minor little tweaks, but the folding front seat for rear seat access is nice.

 

just give me the front bumper/headlights and the rims ill take care of the rest

 

Isn't it just the drivers side seats are the ones that get heated up? Maybe they mean both now.

 

Both of mine are heated. I want the rims and I would be happy. Keep the rest of the car.

It may be a classic smoke screen. Or the seats get hotter.

 

You can really see the difference between the front bumpers of the standard vs the RS (R3) models from those pics.

 

Both of mine are heated; only the passenger seat has the ejector button.

 

Pfft, I knew it was a mistake to go with the Sports model.

New variable red zone system. The tachometer red zone moves in three stages according to the engine temperature. This prevents over-revving immediately after startup when the engine is cold.

 

That sounds pretty cool. I would like to see it in action. Anyone notice in the older 8's when the engine is not warmed up and you hit around 4000 rpms the fuel cuts?

 

I'd assume it beeps at you, but that would be nifty...until something goes wrong, and the limiter decides to always be on. Then your car is just like a sexy civic

But all in all, I thought it was pretty awesome to add that.

its the lower power version. comes with 197 hp.

 

The fuel doesn't cut, at least not on my '04. At 4,200 RPMs, the intake shifts from the primary ports to the secondary ports and the intake valve rotates to do that. I find that when the engine is cold, that valve has a tendancy to stick a little bit. It is possible to rev the engine harder, but it just isn't a good idea.

I also am wondering whether that variable redline is just a variation in the redline or if it varies that fuel cut too. I have to think that it is just the redline because sometimes to get out of trouble you need all the power that the car has no matter if it is hot or cold. I would think that a fuel cut earlier than the standard redline would prove confusing.

I also find it interesting with the bearing issue that Mazmart found in Expo's engine at a 111,000 mile rebuild. His front eccentric shaft bearing was very worn, and they thought that that might be due to over revving before the oil was truly warm or upon cold start.

I also think that it would look pretty cool.

I'm no mechanic but, It says that its got a electric metering oil pump called E-MOP which squirts to the side and center of the housing, and some twin knocking sensor, and a new larger synchros in the tranny...

or because they are talking about the japanese market and they werent avaialble in that market before- this is after all the debut in JAPAN

 

yes its an actual fuel/timing cut. just as with the previous versions if you try to rev too high when its cold the pcm will stop you. on the new version there are 3 steps and the dash shows you where you are.

the standard power engine option in Japan and elsewhere has always been available with either an auto or a 5 speed. they are sayignt he 5 speed is not available at launch but will be soon

 

Take your word for it, but I have never hit it in my car, but then I don't try to rev it high when it is cold. I really feel that this is something I shoud have run into before now.
