I tend to agree.

The alternative for me was to mix my own gasoline. One way to increase the octane rating of gasoline is by adding toluene (or xylene). This works out great for old cars that no longer have to pass emissions or for people who aren't concerned about having to replace the emissions system.

I can't find any data on how adding 30% toluene to system might affect emissions system. Will it foul the oxygen sensor? Is the increased aromatics ruin the catalyctic converter? Not an issue for some people. My boss is setting up his late model Porsche with two fuel tanks. One with pump gas and the other with 100% toluene when running high boost. He's the one that actually got me thinking about toluene to raise octane to hopefully convince the ECU to run leaner...
