I have met a few 7 owners with over 200k.
The Renesis is a much better motor so why would one expect less milage?
Life is all dependent upon how you drive and how you maintain the car.

I have 42,000 miles on mine and not a single problem (other than leaky tail light and passenger visor). I have not even had the flooding issue either after many cold shut offs. Although I would not recomend anyone tempting fate. I am averaging between 18-19 mpg on my commute to my new job which is about 50/50 city/highway. I get about 21 on the highway.
I love my car.

I have a 1st gen, original motor 235K on it, 24K on the RX-8. The point of failure for a rotory is simply temperatures and detonation. The turbos got a bad rap because most did not put proper enhanced cooling equipment on the car. If you don't keep them cool then the housings can warp, and knocks crack apex seals. You also have to keep in mind that if you wanna run the **** outta a rotary you should pre-mix.
