No not on the same tank of gas, I filled up once sometime in the middle.

I'm flying back to Calgary today, it's hard to leave her behind but I have to go home, one way or another.

Hopefully Mazda will figure it out and i'll be able to fly back and drive her home in the near future.

After 3 motors they should have atleast given you a rental, it's not your fault they can't
get it right.

What I'm worried about is that if they find that something else is causing the engine failure then they will try and charge me or not honour the warranty.

Update, Kind of: Mazda dealerships official word is that they still don't know what the cause of the engine failures is. They are however very dead set on it being external and not the engine itself, testing OMP again ect. They have contacted Mazda Canada for help and they have no idea either. They have also mentioned that the warranty is being brought into question on whether or not they will cover another engine. It depends on what they find as a cause.

So...they diagnose and replace your engine...that immediately fails TWICE.....and they don't think it is going to be covered by warranty again....

LOL....I would think they are going to have a difficult time trying to get that to fly

I hope you're right dannobre They are working to diagnosis it more tomorrow so hopefully then i'll have something.

It's unfortunate how ridiculous this situation is, I wonder at what point I should contact Mazda Canada myself?

In the mean time I'm starting a new project to try an maintain my sanity.

Looks like it's in good shape...most of the 240's had really bad rust problems on the floorpans and the quarter panels

Update: Mazda is still testing the OMP to see if it caused the failure. They have also now let me know that if the cause of the engine failures is found to be external (ie. not the engine) then they will not honour the core engine warranty.

I wouldn't put up with that ****...the motor failed......they failed to diagnose the problem properly...and it failed again. That is supposed to be your problem?

As far as the OMP causing the failure...there is no way a motor will fail in 20Km from an OMP failure. unless it is injecting sand

Hell it will likely still have assembly lube in it after that short a time

Testing both of the OMP's you mean. What dan said, complete bullshit.

Thanks 9K and dan

Haha yes. Both the OMPs. And they said that if it isn't that they are gonna check the PCM...

If this was you guys would you be contacting Mazda Canada?

I'm really not sure what to do at this point. Or for that matter what to even argue, other than being a seriously frustrated and unsatisfied customer.
My understanding is that from a legal standpoint they don't have any obligation to honour the warranty if they can find an external cause.

I think I'd be on the phone to Mazda Canada, at the least with updates as to your situation.

I think if something external were causing an engine to fail you would see running issues with the engine immediately. A failing fuel pump won't cause the engine to lose compression within 20 minutes of run time. The issue lies in faulty assembly of the engine or in a faulty hard part on the rotor.

Very interesting points, I will see where they are in a few days and if they still have nothing I'm going to start talking with Mazda Canada.

I don't agree with how they are attacking the problem which is checking the OMPs and the PCM

MazdaVerx I agree. However, are we just chalking up the identical 3 failures all on rotor 1 to chance?

Update: Dealership checked the OMPs and have said that one of them is spraying and the other one is only dripping?

They still aren't sure if the dripping OMP is the cause...or sure about anything for that matter.

I brought up the fact the the assembly lubrication would still be present at 20KMs. They agreed and say they don't really have any idea.

I keep getting the "we're aren't really sure since this is a complicated problem and it could be anything"

I highly doubt the S2 OMPS spray oil, if they did your consumption rate woule be nuts. But who knows what method they are using to test them. Sounds like bullshit to me, I will check the S2 FSM when I get home, I am curious to see what testing methods it describes.

They have said that they don't know what the spec is to test them and that's why they aren't actually sure whether it is indeed an issue. And that their is no testing methods to determine if it's working?

Maybe it's normal, maybe it isn't is pretty much what they said. They sent that "observation" to Mazda regional for their opinion

When I talk to the dealership service manager he does genuinely seem like he's trying to figure it out. That's why I haven't contacted Mazda Canada yet...Still unsure of if I should, but i'm kinda holding out until they screw me over or at least give me something to legitimately complain about

Oh also they are testing the PCM now

I dunno man, I just downloaded the S2 FSM from http://www.normalexception.net/index...documents-menu and there are a bunch of tests relating to the OMP's and OMP related hardware. Ask them specifically what they have tested. See if they bring up testing the metering oil pump driver.

I don't see any tests for testing the spraying of the pumps out of the car or with the injectors removed from the housings. Sounds like BS.

Here are the two description articles from my company's site. I can add all the other testing docs if you would like. There is one for testing the nozzles.

Wow you guys are awesome. I have no idea what they're doing. It's ridiculous.

I'm going to call Mazda. Should I be contacting the regional office? Mazda Canada or MNAO?
