Renisis oil consumption
I've had my rx8 for six months and was worried about having to add oil all the time. Well, I've changed the oil three times and in between oil changes I've had to add a whopping 1 qt of oil. Do people really complain about having to add a qt of oil every 3k miles? Personally I like the fact that I have to add oil, it makes me keep up with fluid levels (something I never did in any of my other cars).

The guy i was talking to had a blue 8 like the one you have now and I think he had the same exhaust as you. The reason i ask is because I really liked the way the exhaust sounded but couldn't remember how made it.

How am i supposed to know if its injecting oil? WTBRotary said he uses at least a qt, I redline my car a few times a week. It stays below 3k 95 percent of the time I'm driving it.

I think the lastest update increased the oil injection.

I don't know about that. Have you ever heard anyone complain? I have not. The only people who complain are window shoppers who never had the car to begin with, the worst kind of people on the planet.
Under 3000 rpm all the time, the engine will break
Over 9000 rpm all the time, the engine will break.
Somewhere in between is the best.

WTB rotary had an auto so consumption in your MT will be different. I have a SOHN adapter now but before I would burn a 1/2 qt in one track day. Usually 1.5 qts between 3000 mile oil changes.
WTBrotary, do you even have the WB yet? If so, did I miss pics? Guess I'll check it out at the Statewide

serie 2 i think injects a bit more i think. not too sure but it does have 1 more injector. oil consumption is in proportion to time spent in high rpm, alot of low rpm driving will almost involve no oil top off.

My new WB had a AEM CAI on it and I love it, this car is much louder than my AT was, even with my Racing Beat REV8 exhaust on it...

I havent posted pictures yet though until I get all my mods on it, then Ill take pics...
The rotary engine doesnt have much torque so driving under 3k rpms is hard for the engine. Now if your going faster its not nearly as bad as from a start because the faster you're going the less torque you need etc. You need to redline more though, the rotary is meant to be redlined often. As far as recalls go to Mazda and make sure your ECU is up to date and you dont need any of the newer flashes etc.

Which reminds me...I need to remove that oil bottle from my trunk - the one I was scared into carrying four years ago but have never had to use - before it leaks.

I don't think people complain about it. They just make a fetish of the need to carry a quart of oil in the car, and warning newbies that they're not fit to own an 8 because of it. Checking the oil every 1000 miles or so is a high maintenance responsibility that not everyone is capable of.

There is a thread about this somewhere and RG and MM were discussing it and from what I got, a oil consumption is good because some people consume very little oil. But i believe it is based on RPM. LOAD, etc. So your driving style affects how much oil you burn.

Most of my driving is on the highway and I think I red line it often enough, thats one of my favorite parts about the 8, maintaining the vehicle = redlining it often
Do you guys have any suggestions for what oil and filter I should use? I live in texas and its about to start getting hot, also im going to a dragstrip on saturday.

Filter - The oem is good enough. You could get a Mobil1 or a K&N, but I don't believe either of those are any better (some people said the Mobil1 was worse) than the oem.
Oil - check the oil thread. Go higher on weight if it's hot (Texas) and you're doing heavy load driving (drag strip/track). Going higher than 5W30 with appropriate warm-up time would be good.
