Renisis oil consumption
#26
??? What? too hard??? lol dont think so
Lol, you and me both
As far as Oil and Filter research it... I do not change oil weight, I stick to 5W-30 through summer and winter. The clearances in the Renesis are alot smaller than they were in the 13B in the RX7, so they could use a higher weighted oil, but putting a thick/high weight oil in the Renesis would rob those small gaps of oil lubrication, Mazda puts 5W-20 and 5w-30 in there for a reason, I think the people who designed the engine know a little more than we do...
Now as far as going a little higher shouldnt be bad but I like to stick to 5W-30 Royal Purple Synthetic...
Oil filters- I like to use OEM but for the next 2 oil changes Im going to bite the bullet and try Royal Purples filters which cost $15 a pop... Probably no difference but idk we will see i suppose...
but in reality research the time of oil/ oil weight you want in your car, theres a dozen or more thread on oil etc.

Tell me about it, I've been reading the threads and came to the conclusion that you can use either royal purple castrol, valvoline or mobile (non-syn oil of course), weights- 5w20, 5w30 or 20w50, filters- fram, oem, royal purple or mobile 1.
orileys had 5 qts of castrol 5w-20 and fram filters for $15 so I jumped on that.
WTBRotary are you going to DIpalooza saturday?
I'm changing the oil tomorrow and hitting the track saturday, probably going to be seeing alot of 8k-9k rpm shift all day so I'll see how much oil she uses.

The one in the trunk is for use away from home, since 5w20 is not available at gas stations...supposedly. And because the RX-8 consumes oil at a prodigious rate...supposedly.
As it turns out, I've never had to add oil anyplace other than in my garage, where I keep forgetting about the bottle in the trunk and grab one off the shelf. I need to put the trunk bottle on the shelf where I'll actually use it.

As far as filters its best normally to use OEM from Mazda, they work fine and cost like $7-8, only reason I bought the Royal Purple Oil filter for $15 (which is very $$$) is because I wanted to try it out and then cut it open to compare... and see if its really worth the extra $.
and idk what DIpalooza is...

Geeze louise, mine is never below 3K except when its idling in the driveway, and so far I've put about 1 quart in during its young life of about 1600 miles of break-in service, 600 ml the first time, 400ml the second. Probably due for a check right now, will probably need a little. So call it 1-1.25 quarts per thousand miles maybe?
