Replace engine mounts if no problem?
Should I ask the dealer to install the revised engine mounts—even though I'm NOT having the problem described in the TSB? (I'd hate to have the problem after the warranty is up.)

you complain. they verify customer concern, then take the appropriate measures.
no way they would let the customer diagnose the issue then repair following the customer's instruction...

Tell them to replace it, most dealerships are lazy as hell they dont even bother to check it (unless its something they need serious approval, like engine/tranny replacment)
Tell them you have some bad Idle at A/C, it happens sometimes, more often now because its summer the rough idle issue annoy the **** out of you.
Its a known problem, you dont have a problem with yours thats great. but sooner or later u will have a problem, so its free now, why not replace them ?

I just got my motor mounts replaced last week. I was having issues when idled and the AC was on, it would idle very bad.
Took it to the dealer in Springfield, MA and they replaced the plugs because it had alot of carbon buildup in it. They then went ahead and also replaced something with the intake valve or something. Forgot what it was called.
Finally they also replaced the motor mounts. Now the car idles the way it should when stopped and the AC is on.
All this work done under warranty. LOL, I don't even know when my warranty is up. I have the 04 mt GT.
Crosses finger that nothing else goes wrong down the road.

Has anyone here gotten the TSB done on a car OUTSIDE the specified VIN range? I know people have gone through multiple sets of mounts, so the "updated" ones are no miracle cure. I have an '05 out of the VIN range for the TSB, but definitely have the motor mounts going bad at less than 14k miles. Still looking for a cance to get to the dealership.

My car is now at the dealer.
I told the service writer when I dropped it off that the drivetrain feels loose with throttle input changes in any gear, and that the engine vibrates at idle so badly with the A/C on that the interior rattles. I told him I suspect the motor mounts are bad, even though they have not yet cracked, at least not visibly from the outside. The passenger side mount does look worn . . . the bracket arm is almost touching the outer rim on top, where the driver's side mount has about 1/4inch of clearance.
I got a call at 10:30 that they hod looked at the motor mounts and they look OK. There are no service bulletins that apply to my car. "Is there anything that can be done to reproduce the problem?" I AGAIN described the situations that make the problem most obvious, and they agreed to do a test drive.
At 12:00. I get another call. The tech did notice a little bit of a surge when adding throttle from coasting, but "that is normal for these cars." I asked if they had talked to the tech line, and they said no and suggested I take a ride with the Tech. I called Mazde Customer Service, which was a waste of time. The rep offered to convey to the dealership that I am concerned, but that was about all he was able to do.
At 1:30, I took the Tech for a ride and showed him repeatedly that the drivetrain bounces 3-4 times each time I add some throttle in 2nd or third gear. 4th, 5th and 6th do it too, but we were in traffic. He noted the vibration at idle and asked me if I had told anyone about that. It wasn't mentioned on his work order!
He said he has never needed to replace motor mounts in an RX8! He suggested that the surge with throttle input might be a fuel mixture problem. I asked them again to talk to the tech line and they were ready to give me my keys back. I told tham that I am able to leave it over night and want the problem settled this week. They are going to call the tech line today and get back to me.
The service writier spouted off some stuff about not just changing parts yada yada yada, but I have a feeling they are about to embark on replacing my plugs, coils, and seeing what happens to the idle. I still haven't really convinced them that the drivetrain sloppiness is the primary problem.

Just received call from dealer.
Mazda has authorized replacement of both motor mounts under warranty. Parts are on order and I'll probably have to wait until next week to find time to get it back in. I'll update then.
Unless someone corrects me, I think I may be the only person to have had the mounts replaced outside the VIN range for the TSB. I don't think they are changing the bracket, either . . . just the mounts.

The work is being done today. I hope this solves my problem. I am reading in other threads that the new mounts require the new bracket, so they must be replacing it all. Despite my car being outside the VIN range, it did NOT come from the factory with the updated mounts and bracket from what I can tell by looking at pictures.

I have a 2006 and am outside the vin range for the motor mounts TSB, but am on my 5th (!!!!!!) set now with just under 12K miles on my car. The dealer I now go to (Rosenthal Mazda Arlington) has great customer service and has never given me any problems about replacing the mounts outside of the VIN range for the TSB. The last time I was in (begining of August) they said the mounts were fine, but that a new version had come out since mine were last replaced (in June) so they replaced them again anyway. I also noticed that the vibration was worse with the AC on, and they replaced the Mass Airflow Sensor. When I got my 8 back, it ran better than it ever did (keeping in mind that I am past the break-in period so I can open her up anytime I want to now verses when it was brand new). My gas mileage went from 15-16 city and 18-19 highway to 24-25 city/highway combined (haven't had an all city tank yet) anf 26 highway. The vibration was gone, but has started to creep back in a little bit now, which is disturbing. It only does it when the AC is on though. I want to take it back in, but I am enjoying this great gas mileage and have been taking 4-6 hour each way road trips the past few weekends with a few more on the schedule still. I never complained about my gas mileage before, I just chalked it up to owning a sports car, but I love a sports car that gets what I consider great gas mileage now

Well, I am underwhelmed by the improvement with new mounts. the idle vibration is better, but not gone. (It idles smoother than any other car I have owned, but I can feel it.) There is still a slight hesitation followed by a surge when going from coast to full power in the lower gears, but it is much less pronounced. I am very "tuned-in" to these symptoms now, but they were all lessened with new mounts.
