resale of rx8?
#2
There couldn't possibly be an accurate intelligent answer to this without seeing how the car is accepted once it hits showrooms and then the used car market some time later. If anything, I would wager to bet that the RX-8's resale value will be above average, if not close to the top of the scale percentage wise depending on how old and what condition it is in. This of course is purely speculation on my part about how the RX-8 will be received.

y'know, that was a question i've always wanted to know but were afraid to ask! how is teh resale of Mazda's cars? i know Mitsubishi's suck, i have one...Honda Civics and Accords, Lexus's, and Toyotas are really good, but i never did too much research on Mazda...

Mazda's resale values as a whole are not great, but considering they have a very powerful line this year, including the Mazda6 which won numerous awards, the RX-8 that's already beating competition out, and the revival of the rotary.... they have a very good shot of the resale of the RX-8 being good. Since the RX-7 kept its value and was a very sought after car, it should follow that since the RX-8 is the next iteration of a novel car that has a ROTARY engine, that it too will have good resale
That's my logic anyway :D

well i think it will all depend on the reliability of the new Renesis...right now no one knows, this is a first generation car...much like the 350Z and the Infiniti G35, a lot of ppl are waiting for the 2nd year + cars before purchasing one

Fortunately since I'm leasing, I have no concern about the reliability :p It will get fixed all while I have the car, whatever goes wrong.
The resale *IS* important because that's how I work out my payments... lease payment = Depreciation + Interest, so it's in my interest if the car upholds its value as then I'm paying less depreciation

I agree with DTECH-RX, but this is the time to discuss this
(and if I'm thinking correctly Mazda Marketing pays this Subject
a lot of attention as they rebuild their differentiated brand).
It is part of "Risk Assessment" and confidence in Mazda Mgt.
with proper warranty and sales strategies.
The factors in our favour are Demand exceeding Supply
for I'm guessing 3 years, and no plans to have MX5
replacement have "freestyle doors" (my assumption). As
well, there is a rumour that Mazda will be brining out
a competitor to Acura's RL and the like. Moving Mazda upscale
will help.
I believe Mazda have been very conscientious about resale value
on new 6 in the Press. This is something that can be managed
to some degree.
The final factor in our favour is cost performance. I'm on record
saying there will be 3 price increases by Mazda in first 18 months.

I would tend to agree that Mazda will raise prices in the next year or so. They've priced the car at a significant advantage over the competition (G35 for example) as part of it's introduction, IMHO. The fact it's underpriced is evidenced by some of the American dealers trying to sell at $5K over MSRP.
Let's face it, if Mazda can sell the same volume of cars at a higher price, they will. It's a business they're running. That's why I'm buying one now before the price starts creeping up!
BTW, any upcoming price increases will only improve our resale value... My advice: Buy One Now!
