That person would have paid 48k if, they had made every protected payment for 60 months. The person PAID around $39k for the car, around $1k in Fees, $6k in taxes, $2400 in insurance... and an estimated $4400 in interest, over 60 months, which he did not pay.

Yeah I was slightly off on the full price.

He paid 46,500 before the costs of borrowing etc.. That was basiclly the cost of the car plus taxes (15%)

Wasn't your car, technically, 38 months old since you bought a new, year old car in the middle of 06? 2005 RX8 went on sale Sep 04, you sold Nov 07. That equals 38 months. It's like buying a new car that's been sitting on the dealer's lot for a couple of years and then complaining about resale value. Basing residual on MSRP doesn't make sense since everyone knows no one pays MSRP.

was at the mazda dealer last night looking at 8s.

they have a 2004 GT - red with black leather intereior. no nav. no appearnace kit.

32k miles. they have it listed for $19k.

$5 says if I offered them 16k or so and said "take it or leave it" they'd take it.

I don't think the resale is so hot on the RX8. which is why i'm heavily looking at a used one. the brand new loaded up GT i test drove last night had a 33k window sticker - MSRP. I could buy the EXACT same car, but a 2006 model with 12k miles for about $23k.

jake, i think u just got a good deal on your 8 and that actual resale value and kbb varies quite a bit based on what ppl have reported on the board. the only person in our group that made out like a bandit was rick, who also had a white 8. i think he had an 04 gt and sold it private party for $23k. he used to go to the malibu cruise, before the sb gang stopped going to malibu. so, u probably never met him. like don, he then bought a 350z.

Contrary to much of the claims, the resale value of the 8 is about normal, unless you either got totally ripped off as an original purchaser, or you bought one of the newest ones (04) in late 2003.


The average new car depreciates 50% by year 3 after original purchase. This is true of cars in the relative same class as the 8, such as the 350Z, S2K, yada....

Of course, there are cars with exceptional resale value, but they are rare - the Evo (especially IV) comes to mind.

I got mine for a pretty decent price. It only had 6200 miles on it, and got it for 21k. It's an '06 GT package. I think the only real options that it doesn't have on it, that the original owner didn't want, was the 6 disc cd changer and the nav system.

It's about time someone said that about Kelley. I can tell you from having family in the car biz that Kelly is crap and way overrated. Too many people use it and think their car is worth what he says when in reality it is b/t 2 and 5 grand LESS than what he is saying. If you go to a dealer and mention Kelley, you will probably get laughed at.

Banks and dealerships actually use the Black Book (the TRUE market value book) to determine the value of a car, truck, etc. Get your hands on one and you will truly be disappointed at the value of your car. I know I was.

yep, KBB numbers can be very inaccurate depending on location. a Much more accurate way to estimate how much your car is worth is to look at the average price listed on autotrader or cars.com and take ~1000 off that number
