Retrofit '04?

My 8 is an '04 with just over 51k miles on it. I see that on the new '09 Grand Touring models they come with rain sensitive wipers, automatic climate control, and automatic headlights.

Does anyone have any insight as to whether any of the electronics for those options could be simply installed into my '04? I would guess yes on the climate control as that was standard outside the US, but I don't know enough about the other two.

I hate to be this guy, but are you seriously so lazy that you want your car to turn the lights and wipers on for you? It's a goddamn control that's literally inches from your fingers when you're driving. Don't waste the money or the time, man.

Would you be saying this if you bought an '09?

It may be a totally different design, as far as climate control goes. Really for all of that you'll need to see an 09 taken apart to know, and then a side by side comparison to be sure.

+1. Auto lights might keep you from getting tickets for forgetting to turn on your lights when pulling out of well-lit gas stations, but other than that I can't see a use for either technologies.

I'd be asking how to remove those features if I bought an '09.

What the OP needs to do is to trade his 04 in for a Infinishiti.

I'd also be asking how to remove that huge ugly plastic over the grill.

if they're willing to sell me a 09 for 20K fully loaded with 0% apr, I'd be happy to take 1.

No? Hmm I thought it had been done and the person who did it just didn't like the way it worked but its been a while since I dug up that post.

So you're the guy running around in low visibility situations with no headlights on? In those situations, headlights are so other people can see you. Go the extra effort and click that headlight switch all the way on.

i guess everyone's missing the point of the question. the point isn't, "should a person get these options?" it is "can they be done?"

just look at the fact that a lot of people bought the auto-close sunroof mod. yes, we can all hold it closed but some people want it to do it automatically with one touch. if i didn't have kids i would have joined that group as well so i'm certainly not excluding myself from wanting something to make my life easier.

i wouldn't do it personally but rather than everyone telling the OP why he's being lazy for wanting an option on his car, how about those that can actually help try helping...

If they were such useless options, they wouldn't be on the '09s......

i just want the auto climate control Ü just to keep the temperature constant so i don't have to fiddle with turning it on and off during long drives.
