They also mention that it will be a 2+2 in the article, and the Kabura had a sliding rear door (I'm sure that could be added to both sides)which means it could be a 2nd gen RX-8 as well. Whatever it turns out to be it's good news for rotary enthusiasts.
It's not R&T's, it's from some horrid japanese auto rag that someone posted here not too long ago.

Hey I understand perfectly that it's a business decision and really I don't think it's in Mazda's best interest to have three sports cars for a company that has a limited lineup. However, there's being rational and there's wishful thinking. I was really wishing the Kabura would get made; to me it was the most exciting concept car of the last few years.

I didn't say that it was a R&T artist that created it, I figured it wasn't. I just said that it was an artists interpretation and that it was in R&T. The part of my post about R&T guessing was just on the fact that an RX-7 was in the works. R&T has been championing a new RX-7 forever it seems, even before the Kabura came out.

Mazda said that the Hakaze (little, ugly, yellow CUV) was the only serious concept out of this years concept vehicles (Ryuga, Nagare, and Hakaze). The Kabura was from last years auto show season, and judging by how every publication that covered it went nuts for it, Mazda would be pretty stupid not to develop it further, whether it be a 2nd gen RX-8 or 4th gen RX-7. Mazda's confirmed they are coming out with a new rotary engine in 2010 and they are going to have to drop it in something sporty.

I thought the Kabura eventually became the 350Z? Could have fooled me.

I think it looks rediculous too. It looks like a concept that a manufacture will make for "oohs" and "ahh"s, but certainly not something that should be on the road.

I like the Ryuga better.

Cheers,

How clever! Why didn't Mazda think of that?

Maybe because it's NOT simple.

Cars in this price range are either heavy, have chassis like wet Spaghetti, or both.

The Rx-8 is very light, very rigid, very safe, and very cheap.

If you want to improve one of those you have to drop one of the others.

Your choices:
Make it light but not rigid
Make it light but not safe
Make it light but not cheap

If it was simple to make the Rx-8 lighter you would be sure after-market parts would be out that did just that.

Mags going crazy over something doesn't mean it will sell. Again, 2 doors don't add much weight to the Rx-8. If it could be done to Kabura it could be done to the Rx-8 for far less and be brought to market faster. It doesn't make sense to have both an Rx-8 and an "Rx-7" (whatever it's called) with different parts. It's just too expensive.
