Thumbs up REVi + "Morgan Shifting" =....

...low fuel light coming on at 252.7 miles :D This tank has been all city driving. Save for about 3 or 4 trips to redline every day I've been "Morgan Shifting" - you know the boring way way of driving the 8. This is by far the best mileage I have seen and I should get another 40 or so out of this tank. I've yet to achieve anything higher than 17.6.

Have a feeling that the REVi in and of itself is responsible for a mileage increase, but keeping the rpm's down certainly helps.

I can no longer bitch about my 8's gas mileage as the key to it is both my right hand and foot. :o

YUP...like you said, it's all in how you drive. 9K is good...but not at every shift point at every possible point in the day, oh yeah...cruising around obove 5.5K is not great for fuel econiomy either...lol

PS. If someone can document fuel economy savings with the REVi...I'll have something else I can use to convice the wife I "NEED" it...lol

My gas mileage just increased as well these past few weeks, but I don't have the REVi. I just got 252 miles on this last tank. I think mine is because I change the time of day and which way I go home after work. I started doing about 6 miles of freeway driving instead of solid city driving. I also think it has something to do with summer blends of gas being on the market now.

Never better than 19 even with 75% highway on a full fillup. Anyone else have the REVi? How is the noise compared to stock?

sheesh i just read this on the RB site

*Legal in California only for racing vehicles, which may never be used upon a highway.

I guess I'm not doing this. Damn Cali laws! No tints, front license plate required, and no REVi I guess. :O

By the time we need to have our vehicles smogged for the first time Racing Beat should have CARB certification for the REVi

Maybe, but what is the point. You might as well be driving a Prius.

I notice that stop and go traffic affects my mileage worse than in any other car that I have had. The kind of traffic that takes 30 minutes to go 5 miles.

I have never tried to keep the revs under 4000. I don't really see how it is possible. The car has absolutely no power until you get to at least 5500 rpm.

By the way, I have averaged 18.5 mpg in 10000 miles. I noticed no change as the car was broken in and no change when I went from 93 octane to 89, and then to 87. Also no change in power and no pinging.

Drive a prius and you will change your mind. You couldn't go fast or overtake if you wanted to.

Oh, you mean "grandma shifting" :D

Nah - I'd rather enjoy the rotary the way it was meant to be driven... it's only money

What doesn't make sense to me is that the automatic RX-8 almost always stays below 3500 RPM by itself when you let it do the shifting (and don't accelerate like a maniac) - but my gas mileage in the city still remains at 16mpg. Oh well

Ok, I understand driving the eight the way it was meant to be driven, but 6k rpms just driving around town seems a bit excessive. I mean, I'm not trying to race my way through town, I'm just trying to get from place to place. How do you even get the engined revved that high before you have to brake for the next stop light?
