Road noise

Apropos of my other thread about the noisiness of the 350Z's RE-040's after 10,000 miles, I've noticed that my RX-8 has developed a speed-related noise over the past few days. I'm unsure yet whether it's coming from the tires or the drive train, but it's present even while coasting in neutral, and is quite definitely related to vehicle speed rather than engine speed. I wonder if a couple of autocrosses and a night at the drags has accelerated the tire wear to the point that at 3000 miles I'm hearing the same thing as the Z owners at 10,000.

Anyone else noticed anything similar?

I bumped this up because here at 7+ months of ownership, I have just over 10,000 miles, and in the past two days I've noticed some ungodly road noise that is speed related, sounds like tires. I'm going to order new ones anyway, but not the bridgestone. Does anyone else have over 10,000 miles sudden road noise.

BTW I did have them rotated at 7,500, should have had them done at 4 or 5k, but didn't think of it at the time. They still have what looks like tread although the wear bars are showing on the fronts for sure, I will be looking at the rear this afternoon.

I haven't had the RE040's on the car in a while since I have the snow tires on now, but I do remember not an age related road noise, but a material realated road noise. On certain highwys made out of concrete, those tires were the loudest thins that I have ever heard. That's the only road noise that I ever noticed, but I have hardly put 2,000 miles on those tires. I guess that I will find out more as they get older. Oh yeah.

Just had first service visit and got the recall work done (airbag) and tires rotated. Now have the dreaded back tire road noise. Guess it's back to the dealer...

I have 13,500 miles and haven't noticed a significant tire noise so far...

Although it does tramline more now than it used to. I noticed tonight that my front left seems like its a little low on air but no TPMS notification, so I'll have to check it in the morning when they are cool.

15K miles, and yes I've noticed road noise the last few thousand miles. Probably the tires. Are one brand or another notable for less road noise?

You can look at reviews and ratings of various tires at Tirerack.com -- one of the ratings categories is road noise.

Overall, the car is WAY quieter inside than a 350Z. The NVH is much much lower. Either you have an anomaly, something is broken, or your tires are wearing down and getting noisier.
