Rotary engines, they've got no torque, they're rubbish.

nice. i wonder how come no one else, that i noticed, had noticed it before.
my dad is working on the opposite, kinda sorta. as soon as hes done ill send you some pics since its not rotary related.
by the way, and this is totally off topic, know of anywhere/way we could get anglia 105e parts stateside?

Hmm, I'm not really into them myself, I've a few old Triumphs though, I know Rimmer Brothers will ship stuff internationally but it depends what parts you need.
The opposite?
4-wheel-drive and mid engined perhaps?
That one definately has some torque...

Got it back together today ready for a safari event next weekend, paint is drying on the new wheels we've made for her (16" rather than 15's, and 2 inches wider), so we've been testing the tweaks we've made on the old tyres.
Rebuilt gearbox and lot of suspension mods really, plus all new brake setup, but I found time to do a few tweaks to the engine, we wanted a touch more torque from about 3k, it's got enough power, so the work revolved mainly around a little tidying of the ports, some work to cool the inlet manifold a little more, and tinkering with the manifold lengths/secondary port openings and the ignition timing all together.
Pretty poor video, but as you can see, we found a fair chunk without loosing up top:

Seeing as the thread has been bumped anyway, a few more pics from earlier in the year:
Don't worry, it's steam from a puddle!
Shiny new number boards - been meaning to do this for the past year and never got around to it!
Whoops!
Unfortunately we also cracked a seal at that event, so we're just finishing off a conversion to an S2 motor, which has been a ballache, but worth it.
Having a limited slip diff made for it over the winter after the next race (last one of the season, we're still leading our class even after missing 3 races to change the engine, but only by 1 point!), putting a digital dashboard in to cut down on the wiring (CANBUS system - 4 wires instead of 18...), maybe buy a couple more Fox remote dampers to replace the tired Bilstiens on the back (they have done 30 years of racing...) and hunting around the scrapyards to see if we can find a Mercedes with an Eaton M90 on it...

I actually have no idea why some people complain about "no torque", I had a ride in my friend's 370Z (this is not an attack on the Z, its great) , sure it feels great when he is WOT on the straight. Then I find the "lots of torque" distracting, too much weight shifting around and muddle car feel as we approach the corner entries.

Oh, I dunno, they're quite fun on throttle bodies and a standalone system:

Bit of video from that run here, not very entertaining unless you like watching the front wheels dangle in the air though:

Pretty much just left in 3rd gear and let it slog from low down, bar the odd flick to second to set off and for some sideways action on the hairpins.

Found a neat little simulator the other day and spent some time entering the buggy details in, here's a comparison run with how it stands at the moment vs an S1 RX-8:

In case you're wondering why the start is so slow I set the buggy on Mud Terrain tyres, which are slippy as hell on tarmac...
edit: One with the new gearset in that's coming next month too...
