Ahh ... back in the day, my "company wheels" were a 1985 Porsche 944 - I worked for a Porsche/Audi/Mazda dealership in Des Moines IA - so had a 944 for a demo car to drive, and my personally-owned car was an '85 RX-7 GS.
While I loved my RX-7. let's just say that Tom Cruise in Risky Business said it best:
Porsche, there is no substitute.
That said, I agree with whoever said that the RX-8 feels like a higher-powered 944 in terms of balance, power, experience, etc.
My 944 was my all time favorite car that I had as a driver.

I dunno who this guy is. I'm on Rennlist and just did a search in the 944 section on "rotary" and couldn't find him. In any case here's a picture of my last car
Sold about a year ago when my baby was born. Having 3 cars was too much so I kept my daily driver Mazda PR5 and sold my Porsche. I later traded in the PR5 for my 8.
edit: it's a '89 944 Turbo. Had it for a little over a year and sold it for a couple grand more than I paid for it. I'll probably get another one someday, P-cars hold their value very well.

^Gorgeous. You must miss the booooooooooost.
Here is my former S2:
Now that I have the 8 I'll probably never have another front-engined Porsche, unless I am in a position to get a track car...

Big Pcar fan here. Just got a new Cayman S and will be ordering a new 997 GT3 come June.
The 944 Turbo was a good car. Fun to drive and possessed the usual Pcar qualities of impeccable balance, feedback, responsive chasis, and weight transfer. Not as good as their mid or rear engine cars but damn good for a front loader. A friend had a black Turbo that he used as a track car and just sold it for a new 987S.

Congrats on the Cayman S. I love that car! I do have to disagree with your statement about the 944 Turbo not being as good as their mid or rear engine cars. The '88 944 Turbo S and the '89 Turbo (same specs as the '88 Turbo S but no longer called an "S") could give the 911 Turbo a good run and on certain courses beat it. It was a better balanced car than the butt heavy 911s and could be driven at the limit easier.
