Rough engine after service
Just had my 8 serviced after 3,500 miles. Basically all they needed to do was change the oil. Got the car back and it seemed fine, but once the you've been driving it for a while (10-15 mins) the engine starts running very rough.
At just under 2000 rpm there's a vibration coming through all over the car (gear stick, steering wheel, peddles, seats) and the engine note is entirely different, it's much deeper and dosn't sound right at all. This continues up the rpm range. If the car is switched off for a few minutes and then restarted it goes away but soon returns again. The vibration is felt is all gears and when the car is in nuetral.
I'm taking the car back in on Monday AM to see what they have to say but does anyone have any ideas what it may be? Would like to sound like I know what I'm talking about :>)

I had something very similar to this.
Early on in my ownership the dealership mech cracked a plastic T fitting in front of the oil filter. I would assume this happened when he attempted to remove the gorilla arm installed factory filter. Anyway, my car stumbled at idle for a couple of years and stumbled mildly under hard acceleration. Eventually, it got jostled enough to make the car run really badly, and set a check engine light which led us to replace the intake manifold, which is what the T mount was part of. If I were you, I would just check around the area around the filter with a flashlight and see what you could see. All the best - H

Had exactly the same problem a few weeks after the recall, it was 2 spark plugs. Got them replaced under warranty. Also saw a few other members have the same problems, always ended up being plugs or coils (ignition related).
It's weird that so many of us have these issues after the recall. Maybe the PCM "relearning" your style asks too much of the ignition while it learns and shoots too much oil, gunking the plugs and provoking failing coils early death?

Quick update.
Took the car in this AM and the conclusion was that they had overfilled the oil. Muppets!
Drained it a bit and all seems OK now.
Worrying that they would do something so basic wrong so I doubt I'll be letting them near it again.
Thanks again for the advice.

I had also posted the same problem in the Tech section, but it's definitely not the over filling of oil, since I checked it myself. At idle, it has gotten much rougher. So it may be spark plug problems? But they just changed it for the recall didn't they?

I have the same problem after the recall, but they didn't replace any of my spark plugs as they claimed they had just done that when it was new and I didn't need it done at the time (I had about 2400 miles when I went in for the recall).

I have the hard starting thing after tge recall, too, although all my other problems have resolved. I didn't get my plugs replaced because I had the new plugs put in shortly after I got my car, so I wasn't due for it. If it keeps up I'm definitely going to tell them about it the next time I take my car in (in a little over 2000 miles). It does start a little easier now that my plugs are all tight, but still starts hard.

Bunny they should have replaced the plugs. Insist upon it next time.
When the plugs were loose they weren't burning the fuel correctly.
Remember all that oil you had splashing around. Well it's on your plugs and they are fouled, causing hard starting.
As for Davidh, I don't believe what the dealer said. I think they did something else.
Anyhow, if they had too much oil to cause his problems I bet his MAF is dirty and will cause him more problems.

Well, the plugs were supposed to be replaced IF they hadn't been replaced in the previous 12 months with the newer plugs. Mine were in July, so I didn't qualify for the new plugs.

Razz1, the oil was definitely way overfilled as when i checked it prior to going back to the dealer the level was way over any of the markings on the dip stick to the extent that I could hardly even see exactly where it stopped. Wheather or not they done anything else, I don't know but I can only go by what they've told me.
Excuse the ignorance but by the MAF do you mean the air filter? If so then it's something that I intended to check as soon as i got the chance and if it's contaminated then we'll be going back in again. Like I said though, the car is running great again but is there anything else that I could check to pre-empt a pending problem caused by this overfill?
Thanks.

I took mine in for the rough idle and they replaced the engine mounts. It seemed to help some, but not all of the way, and everything is rough again now. I am getting my oil changed in a few weeks, so I'll have them look at it again then.
