Rough idle...stall...hot weather
I really really hope this is not the road to engine failure but sure seems like it! I live in tennessee and it JUST now started getting above 90 degrees. The VERY first day above 90 (yesterday) while driving home from work my car idled rough while coming to a stop sign. When i hit the gas it stalled. This is the very first time it has EVER stalled on me. Started back up and i went home. Today on the way to work it was hot again...about 92. I was using the A/C and after driving for about 20 mins it started idling really rough again when coming to a stop so i turned the A/C off and it helped a little but EVERY single time i would come to a stop it would idle rough. I listened to the engine while at a stop and it really sounds like its hesitating...almost like a human gasps for breath? Anyways i am taking it in to the dealership thursday and from what i have read in here it seems like im heading down the road to a new engine!

Taking to the dealer is a good step but if it were a compression problem wouldn't it happen even when the temp is below 90 degrees?
Also are you in stop and go traffic or are you in light traffic?

I was not in stop and go traffic. From what i have read, most of the people who had engine failure only had these problems when it was hot. Alot of them even remarked how perfect the car seemed to run at night or when it was lower temps during the day. It seems once u hit the 90s the problem starts. I have had this car 2 1/2 years and it has never stalled on me BUT its never idled perfect either. Always seemed to be a little rough but this time was MORE than rough. It got down to about 4000 and was shaking like crazy and BOOM just died. I have extended warranty so I will just let the dealer check it out. They are usually pretty cool and fast.

The stall and very rough idle has been on this new tank of gas BUT i have had the rough idle and almost stall before on previous tanks of gas. Last summer when it got 90-100 tho i never had this problem. Ran just fine.

*update*....I have read alot about trying this seafoam stuff so i did put a bottle of that in the gas tank today and i will see if that helps improve the situation before i go to the dealer tomorrow. On the way to work today it was only 75 degrees and after about 20 minutes of driving with the AC on it did start to hesitate when coming to a stop. You can hear the engine hesitating almost as if its choking or something. Idle was down to about 7000 and car shaking but it didnt stall.

I had a problem similar to this the other day. It cut off when I hit the clutch on the freeway, then cut off again at the next stop sign. It sounded throaty too, solid CEL, accelerated and idled like crap. Turns out my K&N air filter was black with crap, once cleaned it was back to normal.

Yeah i knew going into it the problems the engines have had BUT the car did pass the compression test back in 06 when i asked them to perform it (so they say anyways). I didnt even buy the car until Jan of 06 so i figured by then they knew of the problems and checked the cars on the lot. Also i thought MOST of the problems were with the 04 models and didnt they start using a new engine once they realized the problem with the 04 models? I may be wrong. All i know is it has never once even come close to stalling before so it does obviously mean something is going on. Lets hope its minor. I will def keep you all updated.

From what I have read on here, they didn't really make any significant changes to the AT models until 2007 when they brought out the 6AT and made that AT engine 6 port to match the manual transmission engine. I believe in that switch, the AT engine also got the second oil cooler. From what I have read on here as well, that 2nd oil cooler that the MT engine had. It seems to make a world of difference with the engine.
You may want to do some searching on the subjects or hope an expert chimes in.

*update* I bought seafoam and put the entire bottle in my gas tank upon arrival to work today. The car sat 8 hours while at work. The drive home was WAYYYYY better. Not sure if this stuff is really working or what BUT never once idled rough and didnt even come close to hesitating. Its about 85 degrees out too so i was expecting the hesitation and rough idle but it held steady about 9000 rpms every time i came to a stop. So here is hoping this seafoam did the trick?
