Rubbing ****
...Shifter ****, that is.
Has anyone noticed any wear of the silver paint on top of the shifter ****? I took my car to the dealership to get the parking brake handle replaced and the second I got the home, I noticed that the **** was marred. I detail the interior fairly often so I'm sure it's new. About 50% of the paint on the right side is either scuffed or completely missing. I don't rest my hand there and the car only has about 30k miles on it. I'm about 90% sure the tech dropped or scratched it when he took the console apart, but I just want to be sure no one else's is showing wear before I say something to the service rep.
I'm also positive the tech put a 1" long gash in the trunk pass-through and scraped up the dash around the ashtray. I'm not sure what I expect them to do about this. It's not like they can replace the dash. Am I being overly sensitive? After all, the interior of the 8 is unusually delicate...

Mine's actually pretty scuffed up. The front of it has lots of little scratches but the sides are still in decent condition due to the way I shift. Seems like it's easily scraped up for whatever reason, I'd say just grab a new one if it bothers you.

Mine was 1/3 gone on the angled portion by about 10,000 miles. My hands sweat quite a bit though, and I eat a lot of potato chips, so maybe that affects the salinity.
I don't know. But yes, mine wore off pretty quickly.
Did you know people pay an extra $2000-$3000 for a "new" Gibson Les Paul that looks beat up and weathered straight from the factory? So it's surely cool to have a worn shift ****.

well for me in my 6MT, the gear shifter gets dings in it when i first started driving it from my Aggie Ring, i have since had to change the way I hold the gear shifer when I drive. This is my 1st manual and everyone is right, its the only way to go, not only that but I feel so damn cool just with my hand resting on the **** of power... knowing I can throw it into 3rd while doing 70 and FLY!!!!

Geez - sounds like time for a Bad Guy write up in the dealer service thread. Scratching up your entire interior to replace a parking brake is not meeting expectations.
At the very least, I would send a letter to the service manager and owner of the dealership.
You're probably right - you can't expect them to replace the dash, pass-through and everything else unless some heads really roll, but I'd be outraged.
As far as wear - I haven't noticed any wear in ~7 months and 9,000 miles, but I almost always wear driving gloves (the kids got me winter and summer leather gloves).

Yep same here and has to be from the sweat and rubbing of the hand....hmm that sounds dirty.
But have no rings or anything on that hand, yet still have lots of little scratchs on it.
I've tried to shift more with the side of the shifter, but enjoy flicking it from the top more. Meh no biggie though, its just a ****.

Why dont you change to the new gear ****? There's one exactly the same for 6MT only lighted during night time when you switch on your lights so you can see all the numbers in the ****? Something different from usual I guess...
