From Russia with love
Ok... guys here's the thing
Im in Moscow, Russia and learned about the 8 not long ago. Things get quiet slow over here especially cars like rx-8 so I ordered the 8 that is to be the first one in Russia. I guess it's gonna be some head turner here.
It got here today and here is my problem:
When I test drove it which was an accident of some sort.(I was supposed to see it tomorrow The dealership is situated near the movie theater. I went to watch a movie and all of a sudden I saw my red RX-8 flying all over the underground parking. I went to the guys and asked why my car was driven by some *****. They told me that it was some kind of overall check they have to perform before they sell a car. (bullshit!)
Anyway, when I got into the car I saw that the odometer showed 1200 kms. Thats a bad sight to see when you are expecting a brand new car.
So I'm posting my first post to get some suggestions...
Should I buy it with 1200kms( 650 miles) on it?
Is it a lot for a rotor? I dont know if the guy who drove it here abused it or not.
Its a quick badass car that is why it's a dilemma for me.

you should get a mechanic that you trust to do a once over on the car or check everything before you buy who knows what the damn ******* did. I did hear there supposed to drive it a little but you make it sound like he was tearing *** so i say if all checks well with your mechanic take the plunge and buy buy buy!!!! good luck. I hope my advice helped.

Yea, tell them NO WAY you are taking it if they are using it for a DEMO car for somebody else. Then just walk away. If they are willing take 20% off or so, then think about it.
If anything just tell them to deliver another one to you cuz you are not satisfy with the high mileage on the car. (for sure you will not have to wait as long) If they give you some more BS about this is way it is, change dealership all together. Remember, you are the customer, you are paying them the money, you are in power here.
1200km is TONNNNES of kms, that's beyond even the break-in kms limit ....

Do not buy the car from them! They lied to you, so you can't trust them in whatever they say. Never go back to that dealer. I bet they even went on a 650 mile joy ride which is why it has high mileage. Face it, your rx-8 has been screwed with and is no better than a used car now.

I personally wounldn't buy the car. Think of it this way, I piad $30,000 for a brand new car. When My dad bought his brand new truck, his truck had 4 miles on it, by the time he got home it had 6 miles on it. I wouldn't buy a "brand new" car with 650 miles on it, that is classifid as a used, car. There is no telling what they did to the car, make them get you a different car with less then 20 miles exactly like you want, or go to a different dealer. I would have a chat with mazda about that.
Since you ordered the car threre should be very little miles, and generally the only check should be all the features, taking all the factory rapping off, see if it starts, maybe one little test drive, maybe a mile or two. All the cars i have seen ordered, by the time the owners took deleviry there has been 3 - 10 miles on them. I find 600 Miles way to many, IMO. Callup Mazda see what they say, I hope they will say the samething. You ordered the car you should be the only one to have driven it, Excetp for the people that loaded it on the trucks, and the boats.

Take the Moscow Metro!:
I should venture to say that the Moscow Metro is quite probably one of the most efficient mass transit systems to be found anywhere. I was thoroughly impressed by it. Hopefully you have a guide or have some basic comprehension of Cyrillic because it's a bit difficult to figure out. Navigating the Japanese metro is a snap in comparison. Sorry to off thread.....

Sorry RUSGiza, this is now a "used car" and should be priced and considered as such. Getting a mechanic's opinion is virtually useless in this situation unless something is obviously broken. The car has no official break-in period and was probably not harmed in the 1200 km that was put on the odometer, but there's just no way to be sure. And that uncertainty is what qualifies you for used car pricing.

I have been to Moscow many times before. I have friends and family there, and work usually sends me once a year. My russian is pretty darn bad, but I can read, order food, ask for directions etc...
I work out in Korolov, but my apartment is just N of the center ring.

In addition to the vast Russian Art collection the Tretyakov also holds some of the original religious "icons" of Andrey Rublyov. Also if you are into Russian Literature go to "Bibli-Globe" as you can buy translated works into English from Gogol, Checkhov, Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky and others for only $2-3 American a piece.

Thank you guys for your input on this...
I've made a decision to go with the car... I guess I wasted to much time to back off now...(if you only new what crap russian car I have to drive for now)
The bad thing about buying a good car in Russia is that most of the cool cars like 350Z, Q35, RX-8 etc. are not certified, so thats a problem for dealerships. Actually this dealership is the only one in Moscow (and probably whole Russia) that agreed to sell it with servicing and all mazda guarantees.
Another thing that REALLY sucks is that the car is at their dealership standing as a demo car. They've put it on a big stand so all people can notice it. When I was there on Sunday there were a lot of people looking at the car.... Its painful to look at the car like that...its yours but at the same time you can't tell all those shmucks who touch it and trying to get in to GO away.
Guess I'll wait till it gets of the stand...its the first and only RX-8 in Russia and they dont have plans to deliver another one...I better take this chance.
It looks pretty cool on the stand..I think I'm gonna make a picture of it and post it later...

Under those circumstances You better get it or you'll never have one. I bought a demo with 2300 miles on it and it runs like top. I just hope noone scratches your paint while it's on display. It's a great car. You will love it.

Could the mileage be due to the car being driven from the port at St Petersburg or Helsinki? Looks like about the right distance.
In any case given your circumstances and the fact that you are getting the full warranty I think you made the right choice. If they did do any damage it will probably manifest itself before the warranty expires.
On a tangent, I heard the rumors that Lada is reviving it's long dead rotary project. Any info on that?
