Rust on the brake disc

Pardon the stupidity but I've had my RX8 for about 4 months and each brake disc has rust on it. Being from the most humid state ever, I'm use to seeing things rust. Everyone tells me it's nothing to worry about so I haven't. A friend noticed it and mentioned that he has seen people painting their brake disc the color of their car. Not the area that the pads hit. Has anyone seen this? Should I leave it alone? I do hate seeing rust on my 8. Even if is normal.

Paint 'em. They'll look nicer and cleaner. RA-Eight did his and put on the caliper stencils and all. Looks much better IMO. https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-wheels-tires-brakes-suspension-55/g2-caliper-paint-decal-mazda-56k-warning-62610/

Just remember, if you get paint on the pads, you'll be sorry.

Depending on your build date (later '8's came with the discs painted silver from the factory, as mine did) you can bring it in and they'll do it for you. It won't look as nice as the custom colors and stencilled calipers though (I love them, but I'm too lazy to do it!)

There was a bulletin on Rosenthal Mazda I thought, I can't find it now though...

Mazda NA will do a one time sanding and painting. I just had the dealer do it for my car and the end result was well worth it.

I'll give my dealer a call on Monday. I guess I'm a little on the lazy side.

It was mucn easier to do it yourself. SummitRacing.com has VHT Brake Caliper, Drum, and Rotor Paints for $7.99 per can. There are other threads describing how to do it yourself

Did you have to point them to any TSB?

I want to wait until the recall stuff starts and i'll get it all done in one shot.

i painted my hubs and the bottom 1/2" of the hubs with some black brush on bbq paint (designed for painting the hoods of bbq's so its suitable for high heat), this is much easier to work with than spray paint and there is no chance of getting overspray on the car. It was a real easy job. not worth taking your car in. I think the black is better than silver as you don't have to colour match and it just disappears because its black.
