Hi, new to the group and did not find any related posts with search. I have a 2005 Rx-8, removed the center console (pretty scratched up) to repaint. The instructions I found here were awesome. Anyway, upon removing the console I was surprised to find the "pan" under the cup holder was filled with rust. Went to a salvage yard that I knew had an RX-8 and was surprised to find the one there had even worse rust than mine. My guess is that the previous owner spilled coffee or something and since it sits right over the exhaust, the heat caused the corrosion. My reason for asking is twofold,1st, is this is a common problem? it is nearly rusted thru and I would have never known until it was a bigger problem. 2nd, is just to make others aware, something you may want to take a look at, only takes a few minutes to remove the console. Thanks for this invaluable site.
