By the way, once I got under the car and got a better look, there actually was no rust.
It was just some reddish/orangish discoloration that went away with a little elbow grease.

Yeah thanks for the thread, I have the same problem and was wondering the same thing. I'm glad to know that it isn't rust eating away at the metal. I bet some Flitz would do the job nicely.
Now that you have it shiny and pretty, have you treated it with anything to keep it that way? Or do you just plan to polish it when it discolors again?
