The RX-7 is coming back!!! Just read about it in R&T. Seems to be a sweeter or more Spacer looking RX-8. They are trying to recapture the Mazda reputation of being the purest Sports car available at this Price. It states that the Mx-5 is holding up its Roadster reputation but can't match the need for a high powered Sports car.

It was stated that the RX-7 will be a 2+2 or at least have that option. So I wonder were this places the RX-8. We know the MX-5 is solid in its place with company (being the standard by which others Roadsters are compared in the $ range), will there be a RX-8, RX-7 and the MX-5?

I'm at work so I can't scan it in and post it, by the time I get home I'm sure it will be Posted. Its a concept looking car that of course looks sharp as hell!! Predicted date 2010 so Oct 2009, right?

If RX-7 is to come out, say bye bye to RX-8. Too much overlap. The extra semi-doors are not going to make or break the model lines. Is it going to be turboed? I mean how much more power can they coax out of the Renesis? I read somewhere that Mazda is developing a hydrogen version of the Renesis since people complain about the fuel consumption.

i got that issue yesterday in the airport. i don't have it on me but it mentioned the 8 and how the future was uncertain to them with the coming of the 7. the new 7 will be styled similar to the kabura but there are still too many unknowns right now. i'll wait until the final product comes out before i decide whether i like it or not.

Out of all the concept cars Mazda has produced, the Kabura seemed the most plausible as a production choice. The Nagare is too weird for my tastes.

I'm not sure if Mazda should call the next rotary car an "RX-7" though. Another RX-8 perhaps, or even an RX-9, but they should not go backwards from here!

Well, we will see which side gets their face rubbed in with a fist full of old posts. It's a long wait but I will be back to watch it happen. Many will be exonerated, but many will be proven wrong.

Bwahaha, I love it how people say "YES IT IS!" or "NO IT AIN'T" -- all based on 100% speculation.

There is absolutely no hard evidence anywhere to say yay or nay. All we have are hints and allegations, rumors and vapor.

As for the name, Rx-7 is an extremely marketable name. They'd be stupid to not use it. Call it whatever they wish -- as long as it's tiny, liiiiiiiight, simple and reliable, fixed-roof, rotary and 2-seater, I'm game. Oh, and affordable. Must be as affordable as the rx-8, or even moreso.

Yes I do agree to that! And to those of you who wants a more powerful Rotory in a lighter car and have it cheaper then the 8, might as well keep sniffing that paint til cars fly.

I don't see how this is really anything new. The Kabura is slotted to become a low-cost piston powered coupe (perhaps MX-3) in the ~$20k range. However, everyone has speculated that the Kabura platform would be used for the next rotary (perhaps RX-9). Right now it's all speculation.

if toyota is going to re-release the "supra" and re-use that name, why wouldn't Mazda re-use the RX7 label?

some people will associate the name RX7 with the less than reliable motor and turbo problems that plagued the last gen RX7 - but it was also one of the most prized japanese sports cars of the time too..... it was the 300ZX TT, Supra TT, and RX7 TT all over magazine covers.... everyone had their favorite, but there was no denying that in it's heyday, the 3rd gen RX7 was an amazing performance machine... it had issues...but people loved it...some hated it..

if Mazda can get some nice power of the motor - howeve they do it, keep price in reason - they will sell. the real key is can they make the motor more powerful, retain any reasonable reliability...and not make emissions go sky high...

everone is so **** now about emissions, carbon footprints and other nonsense...that they need to think about that too. the rotary motor was never known for being clean...

i vote for forced induction. i have NO techincal knowlege..so maybe some of you know it can't be done feasibly on the rotary... but IF it could be done - that is what they may need to do to make it fast enough to run with the current big dogs.

if an RX7 comes out - it's going to be competing with the z, the EVO, STi, etc.

the new Supra is supposedly going to be a $$$ car...as will the nissan GTR/Skyline...not sure if Mazda has any plans to try and get on that bandwagon/pricepoint....

mazda has always seemed to opt for fun but less expensive cars.... although the last gen RX7 did get pricey....

time will tell. for now we have the 8. which is still a cool car.

Actually, it would be like Chevrolet calling the C7 when it comes out a Vette, which they will do.

We have had three gen 7s. The fourth would be the C4 RX-7. I see no problem with that.

Why would I want to buy an RX7 if I can buy a supra or GTR then? Tell me? You really think Mazda would bring the RX7 at the 20 to 30 price range? I don’t think so!!
Even if Mazda brings it back... It will still be underpowered compared to the competition.....
Supra for example is supposed to make 400 + HP and have GOOD GAS MILLAGE same with GTR...
Now in the other hand we have a RX7 with "let say" 350 HP with like 18 to 24 miles per gallon..... If that??
Now tell me a good reason why should a buy a pricy RX7?
Do you see what I am saying here.....?
