As long as it looks like an RX-7 and it has only two seats, I don't care what they want to call it.

Bring it back ASAP and I'll own a Wankel sportscar once again.

The RX-8 is certainly no RX-7 replacement and I don't think it was intended to be.

I have had a 4 seat 2+2 2nd gen RX-7. I would like to see that happen again.

I know they made those (for the second gen, which was what both of mine were) but I didn't know they were even imported to the USA.

As an empty nester, I much prefer my sportscars to have two seats. I don't mind if they make the extra seats available, as in the FC model but, I wouldn't want them if they made the car available only as an 'extended cab' version, like the RX-8.

Call me old fashioned if you wish but, to me a true sportscar has just two useable seats.

The RX-8, sporty as it may be, those suicide doors can't help but make it a sports sedan by my definition. I've already got a fairly decent one of those.

Realisticly, I really doubt there will be a Wankel sportscar coming from Mazda, or anyone else, any time soon.

When the price of gasoline went to $3 and higher, the possiblity, low as it was, went off the bottom end of the possibility scale. I sincerely hope I am wrong about that. But, after ten years and counting, I doubt it.

There was also a 4 seat 1st gen. RX7(Japan only). I did know someone that got the rear seat and installed it in his so he could carry his kids. There wasn't enough head or leg room for adults.

I consider myself a sports car traditionalist as well, but the RX-8 allows me to own what I consider to be a true "sports car." No back seat means no ownership for me, and that's the way it's gonna be until I stop driving my kids from pillar to post. So I thank Mazda for making this possible- that was the whole point of the design, and it works very well. The driving experience says "sports car" and that is enough cred for me.

There are plenty of good two-seaters out there- it's a narrow market, and a crowded one.

we need to collect all the "THERES A NEW RX7 COMING OUT" and "EXCLUSIVE NEW MS8" threads, take a list of the original posters, and add them to the RX8Club.com Retarded ****** F*ckers List

I must be even older fashion. To me a sports car not only has two seats, it's also mid engined.

That OK, I really like my RX8, Im glad they built it.

A Gen 4 RX7 is not a backwards step as the RX8 was never a meant as an RX7 replacement.

What the RX8 does is provide an excellent platform to develop a new rotary engine in a new chassis made available at an affordable price. It was never meant to compete against purest European sports cars like the FD was.

To me my RX8 is NOTHING like my FD RX7. Sure it handles a little better and with the help of Mr Garrett it now goes almost as fast but its still never going to be a pure sports car. Its always going to have that 'designed by committee' feel.

The Renesis is a good basis for a Gen 4 Rx7, it has already been shown that it can reliably produce good power when FI-ed as is (350whp+). If Mazda develop an FI renesis with lower compression etc then it will be even better.

Oh, and hope hope it won't be cheap, the FD was expensive and it was worth it. Plus it goes some way to keeping soccer moms out of it.

They are working on a hydrogen version because many feel that is the way things are going and the Renesis is perfict for the job.

The rotary engine can burn hydrogen much better than a piston engine (proof is left as an exercise to the reader). I really don't think this is the future. Fuel cells on the other hand are a completely different technology and much more likely to have a large role sometime in the future.
