rx-8 or 07 si

Take it from someone who has owned at least 10 - 12 hondas.....I'd get the 8. If you are thinking about the 8 like I was your going to end up with one at some point. Something about the looks of the car that has always made me want one. My previous car was a modded 02 SI hatch. Trust me it gets really old after a few yrs of waisting money on something everyone esle has. I went from slightly modded, to modded & supercharged, then back to all motor w/ a k24 engine swap. I could easily out run an 8 but guess what....I still got rid of the damn thing. I did look at the new si's when they came out thinking not many ppl have them...yeah right, not yet anyways. The price of the Si was about the same as the 8 so it was a no brainer for me. I bought a brand new 05 GT in June of this year for $24878 OTD. I love the looks of the 8 over the new si and it has a much better ride then any honda I've ever driven....even the s2k. Sure a modded civic will out run a modded 8 any day but who cares. If your are looking to beat the crap out your car then go with the civic cause it will be less expensive to repair. If you want a ride that demands respect, handles like no other and when dressed up nicely makes girls cream their pants then go with the 8....ha ha ha...had to throw that part in. I'm married and right after I bought the 8 my wife said, "I never liked that damn civic you had anyway."

You have posted 9 times in this thread in the past 2 days. Not once constructively. You lose all credibility in determining who is being foolish.

Personal story: I sold my RX-8 when I deployed to Iraq and when I returned, I owned a lightly modded RSX type s for about a year, test drove the new Si, and still opted for another (used) RX-8. Despite all the "issues" you may be hearing, the RX-8 does fine in terms of reliability and is hella fun. I don't know why you don't consider the new Mazdaspeed 3 on your budget and requirements - that's no doubt the best bang for your buck right now. I have not test drove one, but it blows the door off any Civic provided you can get one at MSRP.
Note: I have nothing but respect for Honda built products, but until they offer a refined version of that new K23 turbo in a lightweight, rear or AWD TSX-like coupe or sedan, I will stick with Mazda.
My $ .02.

i've done some research and the only reason im not at a mazda dealership right now getting a rx-8 is the engine flooding problem. it's not a big deal if it is covered by the warranty but what happens when the warranty is up. and i read it gets worse as the car gets more miles put on it. i dont want to go somewhere and i stall and my engine floods. it seems to be a real pain, all the work that has to be done to get it to start is a bit scary, and how harmful is it to the motor when it floods? i can live with everything else about the car but that just seems a bit serious that it can be flooded so easily, and it makes the car seem tough to be a daily driver. my friend had an rx-7 and it never flooded, i never even knew that was possible.

You can flood any car. It's just easier to flood a rotary powered one. As long as you follow "the rules" it is easily avoidable. Don't shut it off cold, for more than a few minutes. Put that one in your playbook and you'll likely never have to worry, barring some crazy random event.
Don't believe everything you read from non rotary sources. 99% of those people are just repeating crap that they've heard from other people who were repeating crap, and don't know anything of substance about the engines.

This young driver is better served with a Civic Si. Clearly not ready for an 8.

yea right, no disrespect but go and try and flood any 2005 + car and let me know when you get it to flood. Go ahead... name the car you can get to flood.

Keyword is "can" He didn't say you'd be as likely to flood.

I know but my point is you would have to really try, and even then you might not be able to get it to flood. How many accidental floods do you think mazda gets from their other cars?

Well, here's how I see it... You can buy the Si and put the extra money into some mods and maybe end up with a car that's faster than the RX-8. And compared to the 8 it will probably be lower maintenance. But, it will still be a Honda Civic. If you get that and are OK with it, then you should buy the Si.
BTW, "Si" = "Yes" in Spanish.
