Nope, I have made up my mind and should be running around in a 2003 Mitsu Evolution within 60 days. Dealers are now taking deposits on them.. as they got their actual allocations Monday. FOUR Doors and 273HP/271T.

I can not.. will not, wait till next summer to start having some Fun!

Fast car, but I just think it's too fugly to drive

No offense though, as they say: beauty lies in the eye of the beholder.

The EVO is supposedly the best AWD sports car deal on the market, but I agree with herc that the looks are just not for me. I would take it over then WRX Sti though...

Alienate, I was just wondering about the Evo that Mitsu is sending here. I heard that it will not have ACD but I'm not sure. Can anyone verify this?

Hell, if the evo doesnt have the acd i would rather take the sti. To me, acd makes the evo somewhat unique although some would say it is not fun to drive.

Evo

I've been following the discussions over at www.evolutionm.net regarding the upcoming Lancer Evo. The US-bound car will NOT have the ACD or the AYC--reason being the technologies would price the car out of the market. Also, there has been no formal announcement regarding the final "detuned" power output of the US car. It could end up being 250hp. The STi could be interesting. Subaru is in negotiations with ProDrive to offer their Performance Package in the US--300hp and retains the 3-year warranty.

It will not have ACD or AYC.
It will have EXACTLY 271 HP and 273 T.

Thanks

Thanks Zoom.. I had not read that particular thread... but I find it amusing.

I know what *I* want in my TOY CAR, and the EVO gives me what *I* want. And, I can afford to do the maintainence on it.:o

I have sat in a new lancer and I like the ROOMINESS of it. I have poured over every photo and rumor about the EVO for 6 months. I know what i'm getting, and I LIKE it. Every time I see a Yellow OZ Lancer drive by... I get a BIG GRIN on my face... If THAT car looks great to me.... I KNOW the EVO will blow me away. (It will also blow every other car on the road away. :D

I'm happy for you. The only good decission is an informed one. This forum provides all of us important info to help us make an informed decission. The RX-8 is NOT for everyone. It is not intended for the same market as the RX-7, nor directly positioned against the 350Z.

There are other choices out there. We all have our individual performance and size requirements and unfortunately, dollar limits.

I respect you for having the ***** to voice your own convictions and stick to your budget.

Keep grinning all the way to the bank!

Talking I Changed my Mind!

Hailz!

I posted on this thread about my upcomming EVO purchase a couple of weeks ago.... Anyways.... this is an update:

I just sent in my deposit for a JDM EVO VIII to be Converted and Moded by Evolution Imports.

It WILL HAVE the AYC , ACD, and the 6 spd manny.

It will have a modified ECU and special catback exhaust system that will deliver approximately 350 HP.

I should drive it home in early April.

The US version of the EVO seems to be a stripped down car that will be overly hyped when it first comes out.

We shall see!

Hi Alienate,

Congrats! Although this isn't related to the thread subject anymore, I am interested in knowing why there is such a big difference (performance) between the JDM EVO VIII and the US version?

I assume that the US version had a few more regulations to meet (safety, emissions, etc?) and the US version may have been tuned differently to account for different quality gas?

What octane gas is recommended for the JDM EVO VIII and do you still have any emissions tests to pass?

What is the difference in cost to you between the JDM EVO VIII and the US version?

Thanks, Brian

Brian,
I don't know the answers to any of your questions.

Sorry.

I may find out some answers at a later date.
