RX-8 an attitude-changing experience?!?
I've had my RX-8 for nearly 2000 miles, and I've definitely noticed that I view other cars on the road differently. Ever since I got behind the wheel of my RX-8 other cars suddenly seem very boring. Is it ok to feel sorry for them? SUV drivers get the most sympathy...they just look downright nerdy now!
I've also begun to start sizing up other cars on the highway for passing...kinda like Ed Norton and Brad Pitt did on the bus in Fight Club.
Is this normal...or am I just a total *****? :D

see, in all reality, it's not our fault that suddenly everybody else's car sucks, with the exception of ones that are better than our 8's of course...It's the fact that the other cars place us on a high stand...I've never had so many people look at me, give me thumbs up, talk to me, etc. Not even when i had the BMW...
In short...This is normal, but they do it to us, so it also makes it acceptable!
Ok..maybe i'm just a ***** too..but at least you're not alone!

My car has turned me into a monster. I've noticed I've developed a serious attitude problem about other cars on "my" road. My husband used to make fun of me because I was too cautious. Now I scare him when I drive. I've turned into one of those crazy drivers I used to hate when I was driving a "sensible" car.

take it to the track you whipper snappers!!!
no really, take it to a track day driving event so you can let out all your need for speed that's been building up since you got the 8, it's a great way for release, even better than driving like, as you say, a *****, down the highway.
trust me, after a full weekend of track time, you'll be putzing around like when you had your sensible cars that week.
well ok maybe just Monday, and then you'll be back being a monster on the road :p

I feel almost like I did when I got my first new car in my life.
That was back in Jan. 26th 2001, when I took delivery of my 2001 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS the last of the good looking Imprezas... since her death it's never been the same but the RX8 is the closest since!!!

The extra power compared to my last vehicle is actually making me feel safer in some respects, especially in passing and lane changes. It's a sad fact that as soon as you signal a lane change, many drivers will stomp the gas to prevent you. The 8 will trump most of them and you can have the lane change over with before the dumba$$ has a chance to make things dangerous. With a slower car you're often forced to wait out the situation and spend way too much time with your attention diverted.

Find myself (saying) thinking things about other cars/barges (drivers) like...
"Better them in that thing than me! Heehee"
"But for the grace of Mazda I could be driving THAT!"
"What a sad sad waste of money for that pile of $%(*"
"Why do these lemmings all drive pickup trucks and Suburbans?"
or
"Just remember, they're only going so slow cause they can't help it"
"You'd have to on purpose STEER a car to be that all over the road (and ditch)!"
Oh-O, there's a turn up ahead...is it possible to go EVEN SLOWER already?" ("Yup, it sure is...")
"I bet they think they're safe in that behemouth!!"
or
"HaaHaa, they think I have only 2 seats in here, when I really have more room than they do, heehee!"
(as I pass) "Bet they wish they were me and not them ( a good fantasy)!"
"GTTTHOMW" (rough xlation... Get that thing to H..... my way!"

I've always driven like that..
Now I actually slow down a little because I don't want to fill up every day!

Two weeks ago I saw a black Enzo coming from the opposite direction when I was crossing the golden gate bridge in my 8. I still wonder what kind of attitude one may have when driving an exotic car like that.

elara you are my hero! i love how you defend our beloved board from what trolls may pop up here and there.
i find it a great coincidence that the topic of this thread is entitled 'rx-8 an attitude-changing experience?' it has changed my attitude by showing me that a well-balanced car is TONS and TONS of more fun than a sloppy car with gobs of power.
you can run the quarter in under 11.......and ill hit all the clipping points on the touge and drift donuts around you

Definitely agree! ever since I owned a handling car (Miata) I
appreciate the fact I could get out of the way instead of just
focusing on braking.. absolutely a better driver. Hey, power ok,
and never disrespect the people whos quest is go get power,
but hey, a straight line is not much of a challenge..
