The RX-8 was discontinued the moment the plant in which this car is manufactured, burned down to the ground.

Hey, I saw a red 8 on a Mazda TV commercial last night. Mind you, it was only on screen for 2.7 milliseconds, but I saw it, by jiggers!

The guy told me that mazda is redoing the miata (or one of the other cars) to make it a little larger and more sprorty and to replace the 8 but he didnt know how soon

Where you heard that information is reason to throw that out the window already. Dealers know jack.

Yes, they are re-doing the Miata....The new one is doing the show circuit ATM (I've seen it). And it's replacing the old Miata (go figure!)....it's not replacing the RX-8.

don't know about any discontinue of the 8, but all you folks are ignoring the other valid posts on this site showing offical sales figures that prove the 8 is not selling as well as you all brag about. Seems to be 2 schools of fish here. Those that defend the 8 no matter what and those that ask questions and get beat to shi.. seem unfair to post bad sales and the beat up on inquiring people.

Ummm, all I am saying is that there is no way the 8 is being discontinued this soon. Now Ford has said that the Thunderbird line will shut down due to lacking sales, but even though they might not have hit sales targets in the NA market there are still enough sales to continue the line.

So I will stand by my previous assessment...crack smoker....

I don't think he may be that far off base. I have been travelling a lot the past 9 months for work and wherever I go I visit the nearest Mazda dealer to check out the parts dept, etc. At each of the dealers I see tons of RX8s sitting around. As an RX8 owner, I really don't like that. First, I don't like that at any moment anyone can just go buy one, like buying a Neon. I want the car to be somewhat rare and hard to find/come by. Second, it does lower the value significantly because the dealers have 04's sitting around still and offer deep discounts.

I really don't understand why the owners on here get all mad and jump up and down when someone suggests Mazda may lower production or even stop producing the 8 in the near future. To me, that would be awesome news! Maybe the people getting upset really don't own one yet and are dreaming of buying one someday and get mad if there aren't going to be any available.

Chris....

Redoing the Miata is old news.
I can understand why you would be pissed .... as others have said "dealers know jack" better find out if the mechanics at this dealership know the 8 has a rotary engine.

What did you get on your 8?

Enjoy the Drive!

If you only believe half of what most dealers tell you, then he is probably accurate.

"2005 has RX8s. There is interest in $29,000.00 Mazdas."

I have always been concerned with the large number of RX-8s the local Mazda dealers seem to have in stock ALL the time. My recent concern is with the fact that there are so many "new" 2004 RX-8s still being sold by dealers. There is even a MazdaUSA effort to discount these cars to clear them out.

We are half-way through the 2005 model year and they haven't sold all the '04s. May not mean anything but to me it is not a good sign.

Catch: Welcome to the forum

But boooo to your dealer You'll have to tell us who your dealer is so that we can warn people not to go there. Sorry, but those guys are morons. That's like saying Honda's not going to make anymore s2000s because they're making the new souped-up Civic.

1up: That dealer was off base. Despite the numbers, I don't think the 8 was meant to be a high-volume selling car. Besides, we're fully aware of Mazda making plans for production MazdaSpeed 8's, high-powered engine versions of the AT, etc. Why would they do that and take the time to go through that development if they were planning on halting production entirely? If you take those facts into consideration, that dealer was smoking some really rancid crack.

I know I'll get flamed for this but if they would just get rid of the rotary thing this car would sell tons. Sure, a lot of people that post here would not buy it but the rest of America would. Most people are thrown off by the extra care a rotary needs. If it's so great why doesn't any other car maker use a rotary?

WOW I heard that '05 was the last year for the 350Z because no one was interested in a 2 seater car with little or no trunk room for $29000. :D
