This is a great topic. Im 19 and currently in school majoring in commercial aviation with a minor in remote sensing satellite imagery. I work as a pseudo-pilot for air traffic controllers. I've wanted an 8 since they day I could drive but it was way out of my price range. Instead I bought a ford truck, rebuilt it and sold it recently. I've had my 8 for 4 months and i wouldn't sell it for anything.

These questions got me thinking about the kind of people that drive the RX-8. We are starting to see a transition from older to younger as these cars are passed down, but before that complete takes over, I was curious how we see ourselves.
The question should be: what kind of lifestyle fits an RX8 forum reader?

Not only have I heard that the RX8 is a girl's car, but it's the stripper's car of choice! While the Miatas, Civic Delsol, New Beetles and the likes are more for the hairdresser type...

Soooo since I haven't seen one stripper telling her story here... I'm assuming that these girls don't surf these forums that much... I wish they'd do though... I wish they'd do! ;-)

Anyway... I like driving my girlie/nerdy car! I don't care what people think when I drive it... I know some are mad when I pass them, especially on the track when they have more HPs than I do...

^personally i've always been a fan of appealing to women than men.

If women like the car and naturally gravitate towards it...i fail to see how this could ever be considered a bad thing

Agreed.

I'd prefer the chicks coming over to check out the car than all the burly musclehead guys....

Screaming Engines

Great mix of people here.

I am a 27 year old former regional airline now private jet pilot. I can say one thing that 8 is the cure for my hatred of conventional pistons. I hated them in airplanes and with my current 8 being my third (for no good reason), the rotary makes me feel like I'm still in an airplane when I'm driving. Smooth acceleration and the scream of the engine just before 9000rpm reminds me of the scream of the jet engine on the airplane that I currently fly at any power setting above 90% (20,000 rpm neighborhood) I'm on the road for15 days at a time, serious 8 withdrawal sets in about day 3

I love this car! I try to do all work myself if it looks to challenging then I consult here and in rare occasions I admit defeat and take it in. My 8 Shares the garage with a 2011 Jetta TDI and a 2006 X3, ALL 6SPEED MANUALS-automatics bore me. Fun (8), economy (TDI), and utility (X3). Each car for a purpose.

31yr old District Manager. Father of a awesome 6 year old. U.S Army Infantry Veteran. Managed retail for 10yrs. Thank god I don't do retail anymore. I have some experience tuning turbo 4G63's but the tuning options for the 8 is new to me. (doesnt seem like anyone really uses widebands in conjunction with a good datalogger) I agree that it takes a "nerd" to truly own an 8. I view the cars that I've own not as an appliance (that's what Toyota's are for) but as a method of entertainment, expression and ingenuity. I would feel funny owning a car that I haven't taken a wrench to for one reason or another and the 8 hasn't let me down yet. Need to track down an exhaust leak so shes going up on jack stands next week.

I'm 30, associate producer at a video game company, but used to be a 3D artist as the OP. I usually go for quirky in things I buy, so it makes total sense to most people that I'd have the 'X-men car'. Before the 8, I had heavily modified my previous car to the point of impracticality, so was looking for a car that gave me what I wanted without needing to be modified.

I'm a 30 year old manufacturing technician, currently I work at Cree maintaining equipment that makes LED's, but prior to that I did the same work at Intel making microchips, and maintained nuclear reactors. That management degree I got from NAU sure isn't helping my career much other than getting a check next to having one on a resume.

At least the pay is reasonable.

just turned 26 today :-/, former us army COMSEC/repair and military intell. I'm currently going to devry for my degree in Computer Network Admin. I have an 05 bb rx8. I just always wanted a an RX7 and was a fan of rotary engines, and I remember in high school looking at car driver (I had a subscription then.) and seeing the issue where they were bringing the next gen rotary car back and in the issue it had a Mazda speed RX8 I was like yea I'm getting one of those, just hope the "I'm getting one of those" works for me again in the future. (crossing fingers for a GTR, or Porsche 911 GT2.)

60 year old Broadcast Engineer with a 20's attitude.
I have always driven sports compact cars. The RX-8 was
the next logical choice after running a SuperCharged del Sol
for 6 years. I have a 09 RX-8 pushing 60K miles and still
loven it. (Bought New) The del Sol is faster but the 8 has
more ZOOM!

27 year old College lacrosse coach, working on becoming a high school history teacher. My gf and I got bored one Saturday and decided to go test driving. When I drove by the Mazda lot I saw a 2011 R3. It was love at first beep. When My jeep died I had a chance to get a low mileage 06 shinka. Easily the best purchase I have ever made.

I feel like I don't necessarily fit into the "normal RX8 driver" not being in the military or an engineer, but I guess I fall into the "nerd" category with the whole teaching thing.

Any other Teachers out there or am I the only one?

I'm a 20 year old college student working towards a comp sci degree. I got a 2009 8 after my Civic got totaled and I nearly died in an accident last October. I decided to go with my dream car after I realized how close I got to dying in a soulless Honda and fulfilling the "VTEC JUST KICKED IN YO" jokes

So strangely enough, the thing I love most about our car is the traction control

27 year old Tank commander in Australia. I bought the car because I didnt want to be the typical soldier with a big V8 Commodore (Pontiac G8 and GTO in the states). I thought I would be different.
To me the RX8 has an heir of sophistication. It may not have the power of a V8, but it has precision and quality which makes it the underdog that keeps nipping at the heels of the "Big Boys".

Bought a 2011 Sport just this past Monday- one of two remaining new RX8s in California that I was actually aware of.

Drove an Audi A3 for the six years prior.

In my mid 40s and working for a public university in a mid-level administrative capacity. Was a scientist before that.

First post.

I'm a 30 year old female and I work on Ft. Lee as a contractor.
I ended up totaling my honda accord coupe and needed a replacement. Due to having a almost 2yr old son I was at first trying to think responsibly and fit into the mold of having to get a 4 door something.
Well I always loved the RX-7's and it never dawned on me to look at an RX-8 as a replacement. Well after a month of unsuccessful test drives, I see that they have a red auto 8 on the lot and I'm like hey...what the hell will it hurt.
Well....I have to say...the rest was history. BUT I did not buy that one due to my concerns with the carfax amongst other things.
I ended up buying one 2 hrs away in fredricksburg with the side skirts and I have to say I think I made the responsible choice. Carseat fits perfectly too.
Guess I am kinda a nerd too with my steam and xbox live accounts but I'm more of a PC gamer. I build my own computers and maybe this was the allure of the 8 to me. A nice little project for me.
Only thing that is aggravating is that I have seen in total 4 8's around my area and bleh....all I'm sayin is mine is better looking bc a females the driver.

Pssssh own me...wtf eva!
Well depends on the game of course...I've been slacking lately due to my job but I believe the last game I laid hands on was Skyrim and on steam it was L4D2.
I'll add anyone bc all my friends kinda dropped off and I need something to do at nite besides crappy college finance.
