RX-8 Engine Cover- Is it necessary?
#26
i did that last summer.
97F at 3pm after a 30 minute drive, park and go do some shopping. hour and half later i come out and the fan is still running. that night, i took the cover off. for the rest of the summer, the fan didn't stay on for more than 5 minutes after shutting the car off.

A few degrees in temperature (or, er, the measurement of kinetic energy), which in turn activates whatever sensor for the fans to turn on, isn't going to significantly age components that are eventually replaceable.

Just reinforces my belief that one should never, EVER buy a used sports car that was owned (or mostly driven) by somebody under 25 (maybe even 30). That and getting all the maintenance records.

Okay... I have had my engine cover removed for nearly 3 years now. I have just shy of 36k miles and I have experienced absolutely no problems with performance, nor is there any heat damage to my hood. I haven't even so much as thrown a CEL. You do not need it!

I suppose it doesn't matter when those components have to replaced if you're not the one that has to pay for it or if dad is going to get you a new somethingorother in a couple of years anyways.

And I'd prefer to enjoy my youth, thank you for mentioning your irrelevent beliefs.

yes, the battery cover does help with cooling, by directing cool air around the battery. also, there is a snorkel for the battery compartment that directs cool outside air into the battery "compartment".

Fuse box cover is only necessary if you want to keep water, dust, oil, and other material from getting into important electrical components.
Also, what insanity sauce intake would remove the fuse box cover?

He is probably talking about the airbox.
What kind of custom intake? There are a lot of hilarious attempts I have seen here.
The only 2 aftermarket intakes that make more power are the AEM/Mazdaspeed and maybe the REVi intake, and even then, the power increase is not worth it for the money you have to spend. All the other ones are junk.
And you may as well just tear down all the other interior stuff since it's just a drift car.
